While running I found a BevMo card on the road. Turns out it was full of $25!!!

So I picked this up for $35 out of pocket. Deep amber, incredibly smooth, almost sweet but not really

Marcus this is all your fault!

Yeah, I agree...my grill does not work until I add several drinks.

It was only 3/5 the purchase price. I'm afeared a May have already drank your portion

You want me to save it when it comes out? Might not be quite so smooth

An evening with my best friend and Whiskey Consultant

.....yes, Whisk(e)y Consultant is his job title. As you can tell it was getting darker as the evening wore on so it's a bit difficult to see all of the labels. We may have had a couple of cigars with this selection.

Cheers

Why is it 23yo rum is less than many 12yo whiskies? And who waits around 23 years to produce this stuff?

Supply and demand, there is a huge market for Whisk(e)y and the market for sipping Rum is far behind.....bourbon is beginning to really show growth over the last few years but like the rum, good bourbon can be had for relativity cheap prices....compared to Scotches.

As was said, supply and demand. Whenever I go into any restaurant or bar and ask if they have any good "sipping rums", they look confused and perplexed. The exception being So. FL. When I go to Miami, they are used to having great Rums on hand because of the Latin influence and desire for rums!
If only folks knew what they were missing out on...

For instance, we have had friends of my wife's husbands over who are self proclaimed "scotch and bourbon aficionados". They will see the beautiful and intricate bottles of rums I have on my shelf and inquire about them or ask me what is my go to or favorite spirits. I then tell them rums. When they try a Plantation XO or any I have, they are blown away!

Salute!

Always found 23 better than XO. But for a knock your socks off sipping rum, La Hechicera is unbelievable.

Otherwise it's Hendricks Tonic - Ice and slice.

Thanks to Lups, picked up a crate of '83 Salón Blanc de Blancs Magnums I'm anxious to get into.

Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva and Havana Club come to mind but there were others.

Had both in Panama back in February. Havana Club - okay, mixer rum if anything. Diplomatico -one of the better.

Brought back some 12 and 21-year Appleton Estate the last time I was in Jamaica. Both are good sipping rums, and no sugar is added to these (at least that was true back then), which I prefer from my rum. Distilled and aged properly, sugar shouldn't need to be added to rum to create character or smoothness. As an example, Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva has a metric shit-ton (yes, that's a valid unit of measurement) of added sugar.

For those interested where their favorite might fall into this practice:
