Yea - 2 man auger goes about 2 1/2 feet deep.

The bits can be as small as 6" or as large as a foot.

The posts I am setting at 4x4, so the smaller the post hole the less concrete I'll need to use.

Farm Fact for you: I do not premix the concrete. When the ground is this wet, I dump the concrete into the ground dry. Overnight, it will draw water and harden.

The earth around the Blue Ridge Mountains are notorious for Field Stone. I mean we grow rocks the size of basketballs to small VW bugs.

Building fences (and I have built several) in this part of the country is a PITA. You'll dig about 6" down and hit a massive rock.

I kept a 6' iron bar with a blunt end and a shape edge. I'd often break holes in rocks to keep the fence line straight! Literally - jab a hole in a rock and keep on going...

And then Stephanie, who's it was her 21st birthday, so I got her crew a round of fireball. I got a ride on one of those horse things, that was kind of exhilarating.
