My car has started to puff smoke, a good amount of smoke, when in traffic in 1st gear at about less than 5mph traveling. I can see it out my back window |

If it has a distinct sweetness to the smell and has a bleach white/blue-ish tinge, it could be coolant, which is an entirely different can of worms. My car’s smoke is extremely temp. dependent, when it gets comfortably into the 50s it isn’t anywhere near as apparent, I’m assuming that a good deal of what I’m seeing is condensation. So see how it looks when the temps get a bit higher, perhaps it’s not as smoky as you think. I didn’t see you already have an OCC, so yea OFHG is probably a good place to look next if problems persist. FWIW the RB PCV is cheap and takes little time to install, maybe you’d want to check into that before going the more involved route. The CV systems on the N54 blow by way more oil than they should, so that could be your problem. I’m still a bit confused as to how that is smoking through the primary cat though, generally speaking you really need to be burning hard or running very rich for smoke to come out of a catted car.

You order the PCV directly thru Rob, there is a discussion+ordering thread on the other forum where you'll find the details needed. Not a super difficult install, just takes a bit of time. It may or may not address your problem, but like you noted it's a clear upgrade and is good preventative work. The OE PCV will fail over time, so it's smart to think of it proactively. I wonder how much it'll smoke once you go full catless Only one way to find out Take a data log some time and let's check it out. If you had a flash handling the fueling i'd almost certainly say it's not an AFR issue, but with a piggyback it could theoretically get screwy. Worth looking into.

So far as I can tell the entire country has been in a deep freeze, obviously that’s all relative to where you are. It was 30 deg. When I started my car this morning at around 730-8am, that’s just absurd for this time of the year. We’ve been stuck in the 40s and low 50s for weeks now, though it looks like spring will finally wake up next week, when temps are supposed to get closer to 65-70. I’m so stoked, dunno how people can deal with weather like upstate NY.

I went to school in Syracuse. I remember those winters well!!
However, it's under 40 degrees and windy in NJ, so besides the snow, we're not that much better off! |

I just picked up a Walther PPS and Springfield EMP that I "need" to get some rounds through to determine which is going to get the new carry duty. Few of my buddies are going to be bringing various full auto things they have acquired over the years as well as well as the more traditional ARs. There is always a bunch of long rifles in almost any caliber that you want to shoot that show up too. I will probably bring out my Mark XIX Desert Eagle because who doesn't want to shoot a .50AE when given the chance? I think one of my buddies is bringing out some shotguns and clay too, I never know until we get there. One of the guys who is bringing out some of the auto stuff hinted he may bring his .50 rifle as well. |
