FWIW, I'm with you -- I'm surprised by these responses. $45K is not extravagant for a wedding and reception, and $12K is not extravagant for a ring. IMO, extravagance is the $100K+ wedding and $30K+ ring. But to each his own. EDIT - congrats to the OP!

you made the right decision. As much as I like my 335 coupe, its a $46k car, BIG DEAL, you can get one in a few years if you really like it. It's kind of shocking to see how ignorant/selfish/childish people are to chose a car over something much more important. |

I heard of someone who gave his then wife a CZ. She didn't find out until they divorced, and were dividing the assets.

you gurls need to snap out of it. just coz some guys give you a 25K diamond ring for your marriage, does not mean he aint gonna cheat on you. how much you love someone does not equal the size of the diamond.

All I can think of is a spoof DeBeers commercial in a Family Guy episode...after giving the woman the ring, she disappears out of the bottom of the frame...instead of Diamonds are Forever, it was "Diamonds, she'll pretty much have to"
Anyway, congrats. I didn't spend 2 months salary, but if I had gone to a chain place, I probably would have for the same ring. The diamond has a TINY flaw in it that is hidden by the setting (a white streak of silica on an edge) but the cut, color and clarity are all great. Been married for a year and a half, then sold the house, moved to Germany, bought 2 new cars (The BMW is technically hers) and have been having a ball! Best of luck! |

^^ well fuck her if she cant take a joke.
but lesson learned... dont share (with girfriend, fiance, wife) anything that is a heated topic. I learned my lesson , and consequently its been a sharp pain in my back for almost two years. the Gfriend overreacted... didnt think straight and consequently she was in the red. but enough about that... we picked up our rings last saturday in Phila. Plat setting D grade vs2 G cut. the diamond was .57 marque cut and due to the cut it looks like .90 (wider and longer and thinner). total cost for all rings was 4500. I expect the pricing of these rings to be around 6G total at other stores. I'll try to post a pic when i can pull it off my camera phone ppp
