Good decision. There are several cars in my neighborhood with them. Only one of them looks good, and seems to approximately have the correct M colors, the others are varying degrees of being off. I don’t think that’s intentional. They also can come off or wear off, though that’s easier to fix than the front grill piece with the tiny M5 logo that’s actually on my M5. Just walk away from this stuff. There’s actually less factory M badging on my M5 than you probably think.

The door compartment inserts arrived today. They are a pliable plastic material that is not as soft as silicone, but can still be squeezed and bent as needed to fit into the door compartments. The front door inserts fit perfectly and are great, but the rear door inserts do not fit properly in my 2024 i5 eDrive40.

I have requested a partial refund from the AliExpress seller in lieu of a full return, so we'll see what type of response I get. I'd like to keep the front door inserts, but can't use the rear door inserts.

The first picture shows the well-fitting front door, and the two last pictures show the rear door without and with the insert. Unfortunately, it is just a little too big for the compartment and as a result does not sit flat.

I also received the scuff plates today, but I can't show any pictures of those because the wife insisted on keeping them and wrapping them as Christmas gifts (since she is technically giving those to me for Christmas). So, those photos will have to wait until next year, since we'll be out of town for Christmas. I did check them before handing them over and they look great, are as-expected for an OEM part, and have self adhesive on the back (similar to the side M emblems I installed previously).

Any recommendations on a sunshade for the front window? Would prefer the accordion style fold but will go will one that rolls into a cylinder. Thanks as always!

Yeah, I'm not trying to make it tacky. That seems to me like what they would put on a rally car. I'm not trying to pretend I have a rally car. Anything that takes away from "Elegant, yet can still kick your ass, if I want to." Is out. Like u said before, it goes with people putting an M on everything. There us a guy at work, who has an old 318i with a rattle can paint job, and took off all the badging but put an M on the back, fenders, and grille. He likes to pretend.

Are they the same ones I have? Or the black ones? I ordered the same inserts you did. Hopefully mine fit. Probably will be wrong too. I got the sun shade from Amazon though.

Good luck with the refund from AliExpress. It is hit or miss there as they are a clearing house for a lot of different sellers. When my thumbtack usb drive failed, the seller demanded a video! I raised this as an issue with AE and they refused to do anything. It wasn't worth it to go any further. I hope you fare better.

I saw that one on Amazon just no reviews so made me leery. I’ve ordered it and will report back w/ fitment etc. when it arrives.

Ha Ha I saw the exact same thing years ago right after I bought an E30 325is. I was parking in the garage at work at the time and I had to park near a terribly crashed and beat up E30 318i, also in red like mine. The trunk was sort of squashed in from an accident and it just looked awful. The trunk badge had been sawn off so that only the 3 in 318i was left, and then an M with the stripes on the side of the M was stuck on the bent and folded trunk lid right next to the remaining 3 was. This was before pocket digital camera or cell phone cameras so I didn’t get a picture. It was a classic though.

Whenever I see inappropriate or wanna-be M badging I always think of this car. And it happens pretty often. Just the other day I passed a BMW SUV with “M Performance” decals along the center of each door handle, complete with the M stripes at one end. Wow, I feel so let down now when I realize that the door handle performance of my M5 with just regular door handles can’t possibly be as good as those M Performance ones in terms of door opening and closing times, acceleration and ability to snap a leg clean off lickety split in one go.

The black ones. I was surprised at how small they are when you actually have them in your hand. For some reason, I thought they would be larger than they really are. I didn't realize how small a space that is at the door.

Thanks! I wanted some level of protection because my wife already spilled her bottled water in the door compartment. She has trouble closing the small water bottle caps properly and they sometimes leak out a little. Not a big deal, but I'd rather have it leak into the insert than the door itself.

Thanks. I had to provide a picture, but have not heard back yet. If I get nothing out of it, I can live with that, but I do hope to get a partial refund and just keep it.

I received a response today from the AliExpress seller. Basically they said the rear door inserts don't fit because they are listed as a 5 series product, and I have an i5. I'm not sure if I believe the rear door compartments are different between a 5 series ICE model and an i5 eDrive40 model, but there it is. I'll probably keep the whole set anyway because I like the front door inserts since they fit perfectly.

Anyone with an ICE model 5 series: if you want to compare your rear door compartment shape to my picture, or post a picture of yours, maybe we could tell if the rear door compartments truly are a different size. It's more for my curiosity at this point (I may even throw one in the trunk and try it on a couple of cars, next time I'm at the dealer for the recalls). Thanks.

I will let you know how mine fit…er…once I have a door to fit them in. They’re in transit to me. I think that statement is B.S. though

I wonder if they made the rear door compartment insert based on the LongWheelbase that China gets?

I received the USB drive today. It's working so far, but it is painfully slow when writing to it. I have about 34 GB of music I want to put on it (it's a 64 GB drive) and it's taken over 10 hours so far.

I stopped it a couple of times already to see if it was actually working, and it was. It seems to handle small amounts of data at a time faster compared to when you select a huge bunch of folders to copy over at once.

Once I finish copying the music to it, I'll try it out in the car. Hopefully, the read speed is faster and sufficient for playback in the car. Hopefully it also lasts longer than it has for some others in the forum.

That's what I experienced also. Painfully slow loading. I had a similar amount of data . My computer is an Apple Studio that runs very fast and it still took many hours to load the USB. When the drive failed, I bought a 128g Samsung (which is small (but not as small as the thumbtack drive)) and what had taken 3-4 hours on the thumbtack took just a few minutes. This leads me to believe the thumbtack has some very old technology. However, while it was working, it seemed okay for playing music. As I have noted, I had 2 of the thumbtacks and both failed after a couple of weeks of use. I hope you have better luck.

I use Roon Arc via CarPlay. I have all my audio on a NAS connected to my home Roon Server and have the ARC client on my iPhone. Works perfectly for me so far. As long as you have cellular service obviously.

I wonder if iDrive 8.5 would recognize one of those faster USB C SSD drives?
