Mine has been at QC since 8/30. Either there is an issue or perhaps they are holding US-bound 550e cars so the first batch are released at the same time.

Very wishful thinking. My production date was 8/30 and it’s still in Quality Check almost two weeks later.

That is what my dealer rep told me. They are holding back US-bound 550e so they show up on the road at the same time. Question is how many do they need built to release the hold... I was told last month that I was only 1 of 250 550e owners on order destine for the US..

No movement today, still in the Quality Check status. It's interesting, as I did some reading about what this phase of production really involves and people's responses are all over the place. From what would be expected, like diagnostic/validation processes, to missing a small part for final assembly.

Some owners for vehicles like M3's and M4's waited months at Status 155, before resolution. I wouldn't anticipate that for a 540, but I guess it could be delayed. One person had a vehicle where a specific airbag failed. They can't simply swap it out for another one, as I guess they are sent in a kit, and each airbag is VIN specific.

So, who knows!

I knew it! You know someone at the factory. They hid mine behind a bunch of trash bins and covered it with a tarp, didn’t they? lol

Clearly this is going to require a whirlwind trip to Dingolfing over the weekend to resolve. Send a government jet, please and thanks.

Here is a thought of 550e stop-sale / being held back on arrival to the US is maybe they have to wait for fuel efficiency and electric range certification and hence why its still TBD in the specs on the website? Isn't there some regulation in the US that they need to provide that info to the consumers of new vehicles?

So yeah I think this is the real reason for the stop-sale to US 550e. it is a requirement established by the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975. PUBLIC LAW 94-163 Title iV, PART A - AUTOMOTIVE FUEL ECONOMY,
SEC 506 - LABELING.

Quote:
SEC. 506. (a) (1) Except as otherwise provided in paragraph (2), each manufacturer shall cause to be affixed, and each dealer shall cause to be maintained, on each automobile manufactured in any model year after model year 1976, in a prominent place, a label—
" ( A ) indicating—
" (i) the fuel economy of such automobile,
"(ii) the estimated annual fuel cost associated with the
operation of such automobile, and
"(iii) the range of fuel economy of comparable automo-
biles (whether or not manufactured by such manufacturer), as determined in accordance with rules of the E P A Administrator,....
If the EPA and NHTSA haven't certified fuel economy then they can't sell the vehicles. I bet BMW is waiting on them to provide and give thumbs up.

What's odd to me, is what are they waiting for? It's not like BMW doesn't know what it is? They've probably tested fuel economy on the thing for over a year, and logged thousands of miles under various conditions. They just didn't assemble a work group task force last week, and say "Oh, damn, we better figure out what the mileage is for her!".

I wonder if the hold back on the mileage data release acts as a flood gate to hold back the vehicle shipments until marketing says its okay.

Captain's Log - Supplemental

The crew and I are enjoying some much needed shore leave, as the Enterprise's retrofit appears to be held up in Starbase 12's "Quality Control" process. Any attempted hails to obtain additional data on this nebulous process have gone unanswered, and Admiral Henry will not return my subspace communiques. I have found myself a comfortable waiting area, and poured myself a glass of Romulan Ale.

lol, I appreciate them finding it and returning it to the assembly area.

I have missed all the early October shipments now, it seems. Realistically, mid-October would be the earliest and that assumes it makes a ship leaving the 28th or 3rd. Much latter than that and I might get it before Halloween.

I hope you do. Right now I am hoping it gets to the dealer as scheduled 1st week of Oct. so I can submit the paperwork before I leave for Benicia on the 7th. So it MAY be be back by the time I get back on the 17th or shortly thereafter. The race is on now. Lol.
