Aggressive alignments are not only about handling and preference, but also about even tire temps and wear.

I was saying one is not good for the other. You're unlikely to enjoy driving a car on the street with a lot of camber and toe out on the front. It's going to tramline and wander like crazy on the street, but turn-in the way you want on track.

Using a street oriented alignment (less camber and likely toe-in) on the track is going to destroy the outer edges of the front tires while the insides have tons of life.

Yes I agree with you on the alignments and understand the difference, except that on the C8, I was indexing on that it seems you either get good handling or awful handling. I have found that while, yes, a track alignment is best for track performance and wear, many of the cars I've owned have a factory alignment yielded sharp handling on the street or back roads and still didn't need a track alignment nearly as aggressive as the C8. The C8 seemingly has a factory alignment that doesn't do that well at all on the street and needs one of the more aggressive alignments I've seen for track (generally Ive not needed much more than 1.5-2 neg camber and generally stuck to a 0 TOE). Now again, that's all what I am gleaning from the reviews and not first hand.

As far as "I only need this much," it's a pretty meaningless statement without knowing the car, tires, suspension, your skill level, etc.

So a base model, $65k (cost of performance options) loses to the top level, track oriented Porsche that's $40k more expensive? Shocking.

Let's see how that Z06 does. Or better, compare the C8 Z06 to a 4 cylinder, base 718 and then make fun of Porsche.

I have to say, I just saw a C8 last week on the road in stop and go traffic, so I got a good look at it. I have to say the C8 is one car that looks better in pictures than it does in 3-D. Usually it is the other way around.

I’ve seen a few too and feel, especially the lighter/ brighter colored ones look best. If you like aggressive lines like I do, you will like this car. I understand why the have the trunk, mainly for the top, to claim they have the same storage capacity as the C7 and ability to take two bags of clubs. I really wish they didn’t have the trunk to help get rid of the extra length of the car. It’s no longer small like the C7 was (same length as an M2).

The one I saw was white, but there are so many doo-dads of different color on it, it's not one solid color, plus every panel is so small and un-flat that the color really doesn't accentuate the car. What I found displeasing are the numerous cut-lines in the body. The roof has three panel gaps in the span of 30 inches or so. A black body would hide the panel gaps and probably looks better. In pictures it look great, not so much in person. My opinion of course.

They will probably compare the Z06 to the GT3 in which case the outcome may be similar. The issue here is not that the C8 lost to the Cayman (it only lost by one point so that might not even be a "lost" IMO), but the way it lost to the Cayman.

The issue here is they use the word like "antiseptic and numb feeling" to describe the C8 characters but hopefully the Z06 will address that.

Which is my point. No one gets excited about a 718 non-S, or even a 992 stripper. And comparing a Z06 to the GT3 will continue to be absurd as one is nearly double the cost of the other. The Z06 will clearly be more capable than the GT4 for less money.

Raw and refine are not mutually exclusive. You can have both but they cost money. 911's are a good example of having both rawness and refinement. I mean you can have rawness but not at the expense of refinement. In the case of the C8, they managed to achieve refinement at the expense of being raw, but at the C8 price point, it is justifiable. And that's what people are complaining that the C8 is a bit too numb and muted.

Yeah, picking the GT4 to go against the C8 was a dumb comparison. They made up a bunch of bullshit about the 992 becoming too soft and GT-like and that the GT4 and C8 Z51 were equally track ready which is far from the truth. The Z51 cars are not GTx-level track cars and never have been.

The 911 and Corvette have moved in very similar directions especially over the past 4 generations(996 to 992, C5 to C8). Almost identical in fact(outside of the C8). Heavier, more refined, better interiors, better ride, and more features while offering blazing performance.

In reality, it should've been the 992(base or S) vs C8 just like C/D has done for the past 35 years. They either couldn't get a 992 in time for the test or wanted to try something different just because.

I look forward to a real head to head by a major magazine at some point.

No, regardless of price they are far more evenly matched in mission than the Cayman GT4 which is designed to be an outright track car. The price isn't the issue.
