Ok. So what should you pay her? It's not her fault your state can't balance it's budget. You fire her, how much do you think her replacement is gonna get paid? Jealous ignorance spawns comments like this...

You want a school run by professionals and administrators getting paid 30k a year?

Grow up...

How do you know that? Who do you think spends half of their time lobbying for funds from the wealthy to build student centers and liberaries. I bet the universitie's return on her paycheck is better than that of any other staff member.

What do we need so many administrators for? Oh that's right.. because colleges are NPO and they HAVE to spend the money somewhere. Soooooo... let's keep raising our tuition and hiring more administrators...
His comment wasn't exactly true.. "Administrators" in the terms of the data he was reading, includes the IT guys managing the systems, on campus health workers, facilities management, etc... It's a broad term that isn't limited to the executive management staff.

You must know that America has plenty of different political sects and social cultures. We are not the same as North Dakota, and what we value is probably very different from what your state values. Where I was raised, many people are self-made. These are professionals who used education as a tool for social mobility and progress, and as a result, California has prospered.

The funny thing about these boards is that many of you guys fail to realize how different people are from state to state. It's okay if you don't value education over say the economy... because there are a lot of problems in the world and we all worry about different things.
Self-Made? Do you honestly think that is exclusive to your state?

Are you talking about the idea that you can spend more than your check book dictates? Those types of "values"?

Your supremacy/elitist mentality is funny, especially considering that California has been insolvent for how many years?...Take your comparison of the two said states one step further and compare the financial well being of the two. Looks like California has their "values" and priorities right.

Unions are DEMANDING more money from employers and the state ones are DEMANDING that jobs not get cut and REFUSE to take a pay cut...

WHERE DO THEY THINK THE MONEY IS COMING FROM!?!? The well has run dry... and in my case during negotiations I offered to open up my books and show them how much had been lost due to the recession. They were completely uninterested. That meant nothing to them.

Business owners have become the enemy of the country. We are all evil greedy people who only want to abuse and take advantage of workers for our own financial gain.... Seem a little familiar? Starting to sound like an Ayn Rand novel... no?

This is very similar to the people of Greece not understanding that they can't retire at age 25 and get benefits for the rest of their lives. Or France for that matter. In bad times there isn't enough money to go around.

You wouldn't want to do that. The victims are now filing a lawsuit against the university and the police. More tax payer's money down the drain..

Just read on the news that the police chief is on paid leave also.
What would you propose a university to pay them? 10 bucks an hour? Yeah, that ull draw intelligent individuals/give the position holder incentive to run an organization in a successful manor.

give me a fucking break dude.. Leaders, in most organizations, are chosen because they are the best candidate to lead the organization. If those who choose the individual feel like she/he is worth that, then all the more power to them.

This sad reality is, yes, he probably does. This mindset is shared with other individuals who believe that success and wealth happened today. Many of them also maintain that the people who are "rollin' in it" don't deserve it/acquired it through greed and evil sadistic horrible cruel morbid ways that exploited the poor and oppressed people.

What those who hold this belief do not see is the countless years of blood sweat and tears that it took many of those who have attained success to arrive at a high paying position.

But lets be honest here bros , rich people are fucking evil and are paid way to fucking much just cuzzz

you only think I'm writing in an elitist tone because you want it to sound like that, and i'm sorry that i make it sound that way because i'm really not trying to. i'm focusing on california because this is a california school. i think by now you can easily imagine how much i value education, and i'll agree that the govenors of the current and past have not budgeted well, but that is out of my hands.

if you take the water in the well analogy and the shrinking amount of water available, the person in charge must decide what purposes the water will be used for, who will get it, and how much. this isn't an easy decision, but i would certainly value some things over others... like education over prisons.

as far as the comparisons of state financials, yes i bet your state is in better condition, but that's a tangent. I'm just advocating for education. I never said I knew the solution to our budget problems--that's not my expertise nor my responsibility. However, I will say what I value, and I can only hope that those who make the final decisions understand what's important to me.

a large part of these protests is because the students have no voice at the table. maybe it doesn't matter to you... but it does matter to many.

Not entirely true. Students (and their families) have the element of choice; they can vote with their wallet and at the ballot box. And they always have the choice of leaving for another university.

Edit: Always interesting to note why there are hardly (if ever) any tuition-hike protests at private universities. Why do people think somehow a public university shouldn't be subject to the same inflationary and economic pressures?

Was just about to type the same thing. Students MOST DEFINITELY and ABSOLUTELY have a choice and a voice in the matter. Go elsewhere. Just like any other company doing business, schools should be subject to reaping what they sow. If it's too expensive, go somewhere else that is less expensive. Also, if money's such a big concern, don't dump all that money into gen ed. Most big universities (and I KNOW this was the case at Michigan) have half-assed gen ed classes anyway, mostly taught by clueless GSIs for discussions and lectures held in once-record-setting sized lecture halls. I know if I did my education over again, I would have knocked out gen ed at a smaller, cheaper school and then started forking over bajillions of dollars only when it was time to delve into my major. And you know what? It wouldn't have made a lick of difference in my current knowledge base.

That's why you have to check with your eventual school's policies/regulations first. That's actually the most important part.

can someone please explain to me why there's such a witch hunt for this chancellor? i get that she's at the top, but unless i've missed something huge, i doubt she authorized the cop to spray the students.
