I'm not a Heidfeld fan but considering his car was heavily damaged in a collision on the 1st lap, that's hardly a fair statement.

Yeah, that was a tad disappointing. Massa looked a man renewed at the beginning of the race, but seemed to just disappear once Button (illegally) got past him.

Hugely impressed with Sauber, although I hope they fix that silly wing issue so they can actually KEEP their points

Overall, I quite enjoyed that race. Not very interesting amongst the top 3, but there was plenty of overtaking and intrigue farther down the grid. Vettel drove a controlled race and looks ominous for the rest of the season. Schumacher #2 in the making, guys?

However, we need to keep in mind that Australia is always a bit of an oddball. It's a street circuit, so cars that have been quick here in the past are not necessarily the most competitive at traditional road courses. Malaysia will give us a very, very good indication of Red Bull's true pace as well as the general order of the grid.

That's probably because as soon as Button got by, Ferrari ordered Alonso past Massa to force both McLaren and the Steward's hand. Legal or not, the events that occured shortly thereafter sunk Massa. I'm not even talking about the pitting either, since Alonso pitted before Massa after the incident.

+1 it was the same or worse as what button did, button wasn't even squeezing him out and he clearly totally left the track.

You don't have to enforce the rules to the letter, but you have to enforce them consistently, and they did not.

It was when vettel passed button, he bombed button in a corner and then went very wide, far over the line and curbing (but it's asphalt there). No one really said anything about it or took notice though. button wasn't squeezing him out or anything, he just went out there because he couldn't stay in the corner.

IMO it was the same thing or worse then what button did.

The main difference is buttons line gave him a shorter line around the track where vettels line only gave him the velocity advantage.

To Un trained eyes it would not look like an advantaged, but anyone who has raced will tell you being able to track out off the track gives you a huge advantage in entry and exit speeds. IE he might not have been able to pass button THERE if he didn't enter the corner so fast, they would have likely been side by side. But he flew past button and off the track.

I think the main reason no one cared was because he was obviously going to pass him eventually and it wasn't as tight as the other.

I think you're prob right, when i saw it, I was like WOW, WTF!

but then i figured nothing would happen since it was obvious SV was gonna pass him sooner or later, he was on fresh tires while Buttons were pretty much gone

My opinion is that he wasn't penalized because they didn't want an outrage from anyone. but he is clearly off track, and probably should have received a penalty.

That's what many driver did in Turn 1 in Silverstone, Hockheim, and Spa.

Where the stewards said last year before the race that they will investigate drivers deliberately use those run-off area to gain speed and momentum advantage.

Now O-cha mentioned, the stewards missed it apparently. Good catch!
