I've never been through an El Niño. Is it like a constant downpour of rain? Is it cold weather or like tropical warm/humid where I'm going to feel like I'm in the Philippines?

Never been to the Philippines, but you may want to weatherproof your roof, clear out gutters, check drainage...and basically be ready for a LOT of rain through Spring 2016 (80% chance).
