In my opinion, some of the most beautiful cars ever built were the Ferraris of the late 1950s and 1960s. Here's a case in point: the 250GT Cabriolet. A 3-liter V-12 engine of about 200 hp made it one of the least performance-oriented Ferrari models; it tended to emphasize luxury and elegance. The early ones had drum brakes; Ferrari went to discs a bit later than many manufacturers. The very early ones had an extra-side passenger seat for (crowded) three-across seating. 241 were built from 1957 to 1962.

At the same time that the luxury-oriented 250GT Cabriolet was sold, a much smaller number of more sporting open 250GTs was offered. From 1957 to 1960, 50 long-wheelbase California Spiders were sold with 260 hp V-12s. In 1960, the wheelbase was reduced, and the power was increased to 280 hp. 56 examples of the California short-wheelbase Spider were sold from 1960 to 1963 and they are among the most treasured of classic Ferraris today.
