... really?

So if I lose my job and struggle to find another one. I use up all my savings and the bank repossesses my shit.. (house, car, etc.) I decide to go rob a bank. I'm not a problem? It's someone elses fault that I robbed the bank?

Stop rearranging blame after the fact... Hippies have been getting arrested for shit like this forever.. You want to protest? Protest. You want to protest in a way that purposely impedes the flow of traffic down a walk way... you're going to face the consequences for those actions. Had they listened to police officers requests to move off the walkway/street and had the EXACT same protest on the grass this may not have happened. There were more than enough people standing in the area off the walkway (those who listened to police). The ones who got fucked up were trying to prove a point. They knew they would get arrested or have to face some consequences.

Play stupid games... GET PEPPER SPRAYED IN THE FUCKING FACE.

Only the students who deliberately broke the law and defied the police officers demands to allow them pass. I have no problem with the ones who protested peacefully, it is the ones who had to cross the line who I have the problem with.

Next you will be claiming their 1st amendment rights were violated.

Those pepper balls suck! First you get hit which hurts then you get the same affects you get when pepper sprayed.

I don't believe North Dakota state schools carry much prestige... and many other state schools do not carry the same level as that of the UC system. If you look at overall rankings, our institutions are generally at the higher end of the spectrum. Saying people are ignorant just shows how little you understand about California culture. You must know that America has plenty of different political sects and social cultures. We are not the same as North Dakota, and what we value is probably very different from what your state values. Where I was raised, many people are self-made. These are professionals who used education as a tool for social mobility and progress, and as a result, California has prospered.

The funny thing about these boards is that many of you guys fail to realize how different people are from state to state. It's okay if you don't value education over say the economy... because there are a lot of problems in the world and we all worry about different things.

You can not be fucking serious.... You think self-made people are more common in your state than in others? California culture?

The UC system is very well respected, as it should be. But what exactly does this have to do with a part of a much larger group of people who decided to be stubborn and "stand up for their rights"? Well...? There were more people who listened to police and continued to protest than those who ignored their requests..

Your self-made state was made that fucking way by borrowing, borrowing and more fucking borrowing. You pass environmental laws without doing enough research and when the bill comes you tell creditors to fuck off... Remember the little energy problem you had a few years ago? Well done, California.

Don't try to pull this California golden state shit here... Or at least come with a better fucking argument because that shit was pitiful.

You elected a fucking action movie star your governor. You guys are in time out for the next decade..

No, I am saying Education was a tool used to become self made. Therefor, I believe it is a necessity and cutting education hinders progress.

That borrowing comes from several bad governors. I don't vote for state elections because I feel like pretty much any major party will inevitably lead us down the wrong path.

I'm not, I'm just saying we are very different from other states. Many regions share similar identities, and California, like the Pacific Northwest tend to be different from say the South or Midwest both in politics and social values.

Didn't vote for him. That was a big mistake.

OK.. I had a similar conversation with the union during my last CBA negotiations. They were completely disconnected from reality as well..

While I completely agree that education is so very important at helping our youth transition into the workforce.. The idea that we can spend more money now than we did during the highs of 06-07 is just ludicrous.

Unions are DEMANDING more money from employers and the state ones are DEMANDING that jobs not get cut and REFUSE to take a pay cut...

WHERE DO THEY THINK THE MONEY IS COMING FROM!?!? The well has run dry... and in my case during negotiations I offered to open up my books and show them how much had been lost due to the recession. They were completely uninterested. That meant nothing to them.

Business owners have become the enemy of the country. We are all evil greedy people who only want to abuse and take advantage of workers for our own financial gain.... Seem a little familiar? Starting to sound like an Ayn Rand novel... no?

This is very similar to the people of Greece not understanding that they can't retire at age 25 and get benefits for the rest of their lives. Or France for that matter. In bad times there isn't enough money to go around.

Not a Newt fan.. but one thing he said is scary to even imagine..

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-me...-one-administ/

What do we need so many administrators for? Oh that's right.. because colleges are NPO and they HAVE to spend the money somewhere. Soooooo... let's keep raising our tuition and hiring more administrators.

Stop asking wall street execs to tighten their belts when unions, colleges, states and even this country is unwilling to do it themselves.... fucking hypocrites...

/end rant..

didn't say california was special. but california is the topic... perhaps add more substance to what you're going to say?

I don't know much about CBA/Unions, but yes I'd agree that everybody needs to take a cut, but at the same time, I think representatives are needed.

Like said previously, everybody needs to take a cut, but who represents the students? Nobody, which is why this is such a big issue. There's a big disconnect between admin, teachers/workers, and students.

The well never really runs out... the water in the well has been dwindling down and the person on top decides where that water goes.

I think I recently read that Chrysler's factory in Toledo could only expand in capacity and employment if the Union took cuts, and the union decided to go in that direction. But, these two groups were represented in the deal... so maybe there is hope for industry.

I don't think they're the enemy. Politicians are the ones who allow this disparity.

As much as I agree with this, the colleges don't have a choice really. The unions do have some leverage, but like I said earlier, I'm not very familiar with CBA/Unions.

Yes there was a reason to escalate it... they were not listening to the cops. When a cop tells you to do something, you should probably do it.. it's that simple. If listening to cops was an optional thing, there would simply be no way to maintain peace and order.
Education is not valued by those in power...? You're hopeless.

The ignorance is strong in this one guys.

So the issue at hand is tuition increases.. as you stated in your prior post. Pretty sure all of us college students can understand tuition hikes.

Again with the tuition increases? Really.

State problems here. The only time I hear about the Californian government is when it passes spending bills/bitches about its insolvency. How ironic..

Compared to most individuals with PHD's ect, they get paid very little.

From what I read... it sounds like you think everyone is overpaid. Both of you need to drop your enmity against people who make more than you...
You got to be kidding me? Paid too little? Nearly half a million dollars annually for a chancellor? FYI, the majority of their pay check comes from student's tuition. Yet, universities are continuing to cut professors, classes, and students and increase tuition fees.

You wouldn't want to do that. The victims are now filing a lawsuit against the university and the police. More tax payer's money down the drain..

Just read on the news that the police chief is on paid leave also.

Yup, more tax payers' money down the drain, as a result of students violating regulations. They could have just moved over to where the non-derpy students decided to move and none of this would have happened.

...and I was saying what I said about spraying them again just to get a rise.

Do I think the police should be disciplined/fired/etc...? Yeah, they were definitely out of line in how extreme their reaction was. There's no question about that. However, the students brought it on themselves. They knew exactly what was going to happen. This is why it was fun and satisfying to see them sprayed. The more brutal stuff, no, I don't agree with that, but the initial spraying made me giggle.

Sure, they may be book smart, but there's also common sense smart. These kids are not that. The kids who moved to the lawn... yeah... my money is on them being more successful.

Possibly. Regardless, she doesn't deserve a 400,000 paycheck funded by students and tax payers when the university is cutting classes and staff.

That's it. I'm going to become a professor and hold only once class a semester. Common sense 101, followed by: How not to get your ass kicked by the police. All I'll have to do for that one is play that Chris Rock video.
