The lack of mode customization is my biggest complaint with this car and I said that in my BMW survey. Almost everything on this car is controlled electronically and it should have been easy to add the ability to modify them in each mode. I would pay for an update that allowed steering effort, throttle response, shift points, braking effort and suspension adjustment.

For us "personal" means we can personalize it. For them, it means the algo will get accustomed to your style of driving.

I don't understand why it couldn't be both. Let us choose what can be chosen and then let it micro-adapt further.

Hmm what exactly is the algo changing? First I’ve heard of this specific to personal mode.

I believe I heard some vague language regarding the personal mode adapting to your style of driving but no specifics. Probably dig up some official comms about the model.

3 weeks in with my 550e. Wanted to share my stats thus far. Daily commute is 10 miles each way, mix of surface streets and freeway.

Full charg range lists anywhere from 44-48 miles, depending on weather and how heavy my foot is. Drive mostly in either efficient or sport mode.

77 mpgs per the app, 500 miles on the car so far.

Very impressive! How is it switching in and out of EV mode?

Honestly pretty easy. I use BMW assistant vs buttons or screen.

“Hello BMW, efficient/sport mode”.

So this is all manual rather or is there a setting where the ICE cuts off and you ride around on electric only below a certain speed, say?

Interesting discussion. I’m a month into a 2024 530e in the Uk and I’m averaging about 50 miles out of a full charge. Pleasantly surprised to be honest. The thing I’ve found really lowers range is not preheating before departure. Only talking 5 mins or so but the difference it makes to range is noticeable. Can’t comment on the 550e (we are not worthy over here lol) but so far, loving the car. Learning more about how best to drive it economically / flat out day by day.

All manual. I’m not heavy on the throttle and feather it when I can, just as I did in my 530e, seems to help with range when I’m in efficient mode.

Interesting data points. I was told to drive the first 1200 miles in sport mode b/c that runs the engine which is the key item to break in vs the electric only option. Anyone else hear anything similar or different?

was never told that about exclusively sport mode, even when I took delivery of my previous 530e. I definitely vary the RPM when not in efficiency mode and for sure don't drive exclusively in any mode.

What was your break in mileage on the 530e? Assuming the same 1200 miles before you go over 4000 rpm.

Honestly can’t recall. But 1200 sounds about right. For sure over 1k miles.

Break in period veries by opinion.... I am in the belief that a new engine should be ran at all rpms but not set in one for a long period. It is about moving the rings through out the cylinders... Many believe to nurse it for a time. I don't think you are going to hurt this engine and being a straight 6 and not a v it needs high rpms to survive.

Agree I mix up the rpm and have run it up to 4k and have been doing a lot of city driving and rural country twisty roads.

Doesn't the owner's manual tell you the "official" BMW break in procedure? It does for the i5.

Did a “hard break in” for both of my M3s. Never had any problems with my e90 or F80. That being said, I did stand on the throttle a few times the first few open roads I was on my initial week with this G60. 🤷🏽

Hi - I was very, very interested in the 550e and test drove it. Having some familiarity with my wife's X5 50e, I'd expected it to have the motor kick in pretty seamlessly when I pressed the pedal down past the "kick down" point. Instead, the car I was driving just hummed along in a logy EV acceleration for more than a minute with my foot all the way down in hybrid & EV mode. This surprised me ( and the rep ).

How is your experience with the motor kicking in when in electric or hybrid mode?

I'm somewhat suspicious that this was one of the first off the boat and I'm wondering if it was fully ready.

Sorry, I’m in an i5M60 so there is absolutely no lag to be found on mine, was just curious about the situation with the 550e - your experience does sound atypical.

Hi - i'm trying to decide between 550e vs 540xi. Curious for 550e owners, what is the performance like just on ICE, does the additional weight appreciably impact the acceleration, cornering, etc.. vs 540xi. lastly does anyone have the dynamically handling package option, that's actually one of the reasons i'm interested in the 550e over the 540xi.

my dealership doesn't have 550e so have not been able to test drive. thanks in advance for any feedback and advice.
