So...slightly changing topic, as talking about Biles' "free vacation to Japan" and robbing another member of making the Olympic Team is getting old.
I dislike events (stretch to call it a sport) that are 'judged'. Creates an element to the game that is biased. Watching a few minutes of the men's gymnastics (cause the wife made me)...there was a comment about a deduction because he changed what he was planning to do. WTF does that even mean, why should a Judge know what the exact routine is beforehand. A judge should be watching and analyzing what they see, not stating 'oh, he should have done a triple twist with that double back...and changed it to a double - double'...deduct. I think back to that French skating judge that did the quid pro quo with the other judge. Race a person, race a clock. Compete head to head, or as a group. That's a sport. Ski jumping should be how far you are in the air...not how good you look doing it. Change my mind.

I watched Ryan Murphy's race and I wanted to high five him after his comments.
This article highlighted what has had bothered me about all this ROC bullshit. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/ryan-mu...101624925.html |

I read that the Olympic officials were thinking of throwing out all weight lifting events because they can't control the steroid usage. As in baseball, I have no interest in seeing what chemically maximized people can do. All drugs have side effects. |

The definition of sport has been debated forever. There are many definitions by many sources. If you don't think judged competitions are sports, so be it. I would even think of trying to changing your mind. |

Here's a good article- in it, she says that things started in Tokyo, and she *literally* can't tell up from down in a jump. And has been trying to train in a gym in Tokyo with a soft pit. https://www.nytimes.com/article/twis...gtype=Homepage Here's the best analogy I can come up with. My buddy is a professional airline pilot-- retired military and ~23 years with a major airline. He suddenly came down with a (thankfully, short-term) vestibular problem-- which shot his sense of balance and sense of up and down to hell and gone. He had to call off a trip in the middle of it-- because his inner ear was completely whacked. Spatial sense is obviously very critical to a pilot-- and when he was in the cockpit, his inner ear and somatosensory system was telling him one thing while his visual cues and instrumentation were telling him something completely different. So, he bailed. Was he a "quitter"? Or should he have "gutted it out" and tried to press on-- possibly killing himself and 180 other people? Should his answer have been different if it was just his life he was risking? I think Simone Biles demonstrated amazing courage to do what she did-- bucking the pressure of the Olympics, personal expectations, the expectations of her country and the world, sponsors, media, etc-- that's NOT something you do on a whim. And she's ruled the gymnastics world for over a decade. I would give her a standing ovation for what she did if given the chance. She's literally the best that there ever was-- she has nothing to prove-- and at her level of difficulty, "sucking it up" while suffering from The Twisties had a very good chance of leading to her paralysis, injury or death. As I said, we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. R.

I agree it took courage, and she can justify quitting if risking injury. Also agree she is the best female gymnast. It being justifiable and it making her a hero are two different things. She didn't save other people lives like your example. She did what was best for her, maybe in an attempt to save face, maybe to help her team have a better chance, or maybe she was just screwing up and didn't wanna face the loss. They could have just painted the narrative after also to cover.

The semi finals for the women's diving last night was pretty cool. Top 12 make it to finals, and one of the ladies was top 12 going into her final dive and messed up on her jump so she basically just fell into the water and did no dive..
ended up last on the list and not making to the finals… felt bad for her. |

So far I've enjoyed:
Skateboarding Basketball 3 x 3 and Men's Team Track 4 x 400m mixed (this is new) Womens 100M Diving Gymnastics and Swimming I can only handle 20 minutes of then it gets insanely boring to me... there are too many events in those 2 sports and because of that they are the most streamed. All in all, still awaiting the remainder of track and field... that makes the games to me.

Which raises the question I always have but why is Jamaica so freaking good at sprinting, both men and women. Women are dominating now. I hope the US team can bring in some medals. That 19year old 800m sprinter is good!

I'm still trying to understand how Jamaica's female sprinters are all like Usain Bolt compared to the rest of the field. I mean they swept all 3 medals in the 100m sprint. Insane.

Bobby Finke FTMFW in the Men's 1500m swimming event!! First time in 37 years the US of A has taken gold in this event. He shocked the world in the 800m the other night and no one expected him to win in this event.
