Great collection. Almost picked up a BR01-03 a few years back and might still, always like the look of it. Buddy of mine got a Maratac Large Pilot....I was impressed for a sub $400 watch to have a Miyota 8245 Automatic movement

The ceramic SD is an awesome piece but I have stuck to my trusty GMT's due to their history with Juan Tripp commissioning the original 6542 "Pussy Galore"(which I would love to have) for Pan Am in 1954. I started flying commercially in 1997 and purchased my 1675 from its original owner. That one watch has accompanied me around the world more times than I can count and I wouldn't think of going to work without it. Plan on wearing it right thru to my retirement flight. Recently sold my 16760 "Fat Lady" to a friend as he had always wanted it and picked up the new 116500LN as my AD offered it to me at MSRP. Was going to flip it but have been wearing it more and think having a Daytona in the collection is always a smart bet (smarter if it was a Paul Newman model) I wouldn't mind an Explorer 1655 "Steve McQueen" but the prices of those have gone ridiculously high. I inherited by grandfathers 14270 but don't wear it much, always like the look of the 216570 and might end up getting one someday. You are correct, it is a fun hobby and can be a smart investment. I wish I had the cash to play with million dollar cars to collect and trade but don't play in that league. Watches are a way for me to get the same type of excitement on a scale I can afford

Feel a bit guilty for not wearing my watches since I got an Apple Watch, but I'm really active and now it just feels plain weird not getting a buzz on my wrist when a message comes through. Damn you apple! Have always been drawn to leather bands, used to sport a 42mm automatic Mont Blanc 4810 for most occasions.
Recently saw a FB ad from Casio for their Edifice and almost subconsciously added to cart simply because their ads had a few shots with a bimmer. Didn't even read the specs! Snazzy looking watch for sub $300 if you ask me, but damn, marketing got me good ha |

Added a watch! I have wanted to buy a nice mechanical watch for about 30 years! Spent somewhere north of $450,000 on my education and now spending on my kids education....so the hell with it...I got the thing.
iPhone photo. Perhaps I should be a real duche and re-shoot it with my Canon 1DX with 50 mm f 1.4 lens? .....ya...I might do that....

The Batman, one of my favorites. Difficult to obtain but I am on the wait. Another on the wishlist, the Hulk.

18238 today. White face with romans. I've wanted this watch since I was about 12. Only gold one I own. The rest are SS or two tone........ Some say it's an old man's watch....don't care. I really like it.

Would love to add a Speedy or a Batman at some point but after trying on both I found them a bit too dainty for my wrist. At 6'8 and 270 lbs, I need something a bit more substantial. The Maratac is a gem although I wonder how much of their story is real/schtick. I don't particularly care at the end of the day as I love the piece and it's a solid beater. |
