I honestly haven't been too disappointed in any purchases. I do heavy amounts of research and am looking for very specific things when searching for the next.

I was nearly dead set on getting a new ATSV this go around but kept reading on forums how all these folks hated the quality and the radio/hvac interface. Glad I actually went and drove one. I still say it's one of the most gorgeous cars out especially with the recaros(that apparently fall apart quickly). Car rattled, engine rattled. Crap I couldn't deal with

Bought new, 22k miles later IMS, total engine replace, no factory help (more than 3 years old).
Replaced engine with a junk yard one and sold it a year later. My $55k 22k miles car returned me $5k after costs.

An old Jeep Cherokee...mid 90s?? I was 18...got it cheap with about 400,000 km on it...spent all my days working on it and I swear the thing looked almost new after months of work on it...it was just the milage...that thing got scary bad milage...like my 128i gets better than double what that thing did...the fuel economy meant my McJob at the time's pay cheque went into the tank of that thing. Hated letting that one go but I just couldn't afford it...this is back in 1998??

I've been doing good so far with only 1 car that I regretted. It was a '18 Audi SQ5. The actual car itself was great, but I realized the sporty SUV thing is not for me at all. Simply too heavy and disconnected for it to drive sporty. Traded it in after 9 months (shortest ownership on record for me) for a '18 M3. It was such a relief to be back in a sports sedan.

I did. I bought a brand new 2018 GMC Sierra SLT and owned it for exactly two years. In that time, I had it back to the dealer 8 times for a crappy shifting transmission (6 speed). I finally sold it a year ago for more than I paid for it because of the truck shortage. I have owned a GMC or Chevy truck most of my life, but I was really disappointed in that one. Since it was paid for, I took the check I got for selling it back to a dealer and went right to the BMW dealer and bought my new to me G30.

1999 Pontiac Montana. Not because it was a bad car, although the interior plastics were shite. And, it was a (somewhat) necessary purchase because we had two kids and my 1996 E39 Wagon blew up two transmissions in six months, so we needed something. I regretted it for two reasons:

1. I had to trade in my 1988 911 Coupe to afford it (grrrrr, thanks BMW),
2. Putting my balls in the little tray in the dash every time I drove it got old fast.

during the great recession I had to turn in my Pontiac GTO for a used Nissan Frontier pickup truck. That downgrade was so severe I popped an ear drum when I drove it home.

Even though I sold cars for years, I still broke the cardinal rule back in 2018; I bought a price, not a car.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the IS 350 FSport well enough, but it was the wrong car, and I knew that, I just got such a good deal on it.

How good? Well, I was able to buy it new and trade it in on the M2 within 6 months and MAKE MONEY, and that was pre-pandemic, so that's saying a lot.

I don't miss that car.

For me, definitely a Chrysler Neon. I was new to Canada and got it cheap but what an appalling vehicle suspension wise, relentlessly chewed through parts, just relentless.

The other is tricky, I was 23, year was 1999. That's significant because house prices in Sydney went utterly insane in 2001. The car, was a 1971 Alfa ROmeo Giulia Coupe, it was a great car, really great. but truth be told, cost me about $1M.

1968 Camaro 6-cylinder 3-speed manual. Bottom of the price ladder when it was new. I bought it in the mid-1970s for a price that seemed too low for what I was getting. I made up for the low price in an endless battle with electrical woes and an engine with a phenomenal thirst for oil. Should have known not to buy GM. Never did again.

1990 RX7. I've been wanting an FD, but at the time I was young, wanted to learn about Rotary engines and RX7s off the FC, and it was $1200. My regret was that 1) if going that route I should've saved for a Turbo II, or 2) just save up for the 93 RX7. The interior was super clean and the car was totally stock, which was hard to find in 2005 due to the drift craze. The only problem was that the car was NA, so it only had a whooping 100 hp or so, open diff, and AC was going out.

2022 MINI Clubman JCW.

The wife really wanted a M135i, but that is euro only, so we bought the next closest thing. We. were. wrong. Definitely feels like it is based on the SUV chassis like it's sibling the Countryman. Handles like an SUV with ultra twitchy steering. Sport mode is an improvement, but it turns the ride into crap. Replaced the factory A/S tires with a lightweight set of 19s and Michelin PS4 tires, and eibach springs. Helped the handling somewhat, but it is still inferior, or at the least, less confidence inspiring than the 2016 Golf R we traded in for it. Six months into to ownership we are both having serious buyers remorse, and are already looking to move on.

I normally do plenty of research that by the time I am ready to buy, I know exactly what I am getting.

The only time I have really regretted a purchase was my E90, and that simply because I settled for what was available and didn't search longer for the options I wanted. I loved the car, it was just a pheasant. As I was driving home I realized it was a manual rear-view mirror, realized the stereo sound was lacking, the seats were uncomfortable, etc. Little things that I didn't really pay much attention to at first, but all things that were easily changed, so after some retrofits it was a great car.

The better looking half has been casually searching for a new car and keeps sending me various listings that I keep saying no to after looking them up. She bases her interest solely on looks, not by features, maintenance, known issues, etc. She has regretted her last 3 purchases so...….

I know! To be fair it was the second gen Neon which was supposed to be better. The drivetrain was fine but holy shit balls the suspension, something was ALWAYS breaking.

I probably have 2 of them, the former wasn't really its fault, the second one I think I got a lemon or you can thank Nissan
15 VW Golf TSI - it wasn't because it is a horrid car, it isn't, and 95% of normal drivers would appreciate the quality of the thing, but it is a boring appliance, mine had trim peel around the center console and cut me several times, but worst crime of this car is the clutch that feels like literally nothing, you can never tell when it engages or when it will stall.

11 Nissan 370Z - It was suppose to be the replacement for my beloved MX5, but it was a never-meet-your-heroes car, the car's absolutely dreadful on almost all metric, I got rid of it about a year later. My issues through the about 8 months of just summer driving:
-Power steering locked up, mid corner on the track, with my pregnant wife next to me. It unlocked a brief second after, but needless to say it scarred me for life
-Fuel starvation, once with a full tank on the track, second time on a interchange, the former recovered, the latter did not and i got stuck on the side of the highway waiting for CAA to deliver me fuel at rush hour. By the way, this was 3 days before my kid was born, on our anniversary. Fun times
-Clutch Master gave out during traffic jam, in the middle lane. I had two helpful bros help push me aside thankfully while again waiting for a tow. No the wife's not preggo yet this time
-Differential seems like it exists in a parallel universe, engages about 2 hours after you exit the corner
-Did I mention that in the brief time I had it, it made through 1 4 hour track day without issue, every other time i went back then, it'd have issues, typically is brakes, or steering, or oil temps. In comparison, in the 5 years in the MX5, it failed me once and I still manage to make it through the day with a failing coil

Steering never felt right, it gives no feel, it is inconsistent, makes the car feel wayward
Brakes are awful and I had decent Project Mu HC+ pads, i am fairly certain I have dealt with ice mode several times
Oil temps are ridiculous, a mostly stock car can do at most 6-7 laps

I guess its only redeeming feature is that i get more compliments on that thing than any other car, it sounds good and it looks damn good. But looks can only go so far.

This is the exact car I was about to post. I leased a '16 IS200T bc I needed to get out of my E92 that I was underwater on. 1st & last car I'll ever lease. It was great in the fact that I had zero maintenance, but God I hated that car after modifying everything that I've ever driven before. It was absolutely boring as hell in every aspect. Good car, just not for me.

It was a transitionary car for me. At the time, the BMW dealers wanted over sticker for the M2, and I'm just not made like that, so I bought a different car, and waited for the right used M2 to come up. The IS looks good, but it has no soul, like none whatsoever.

Purchased Dec 2013. First performance car. I discounted the negative parts of the reviews far too much and since these cars were rare at the time I didn't have one within 5 hours of me to try before buying.

The nose heavy handling, extremely numb steering, awful gearbox engagement and general character of the car (outside of the epic engine) sucked the fun out of the car very quickly, but it was easy and inexpensive to mod so I got sucked into modding it for speed. The car ended up being so one dimensional that I parked it immediately after getting the 911, even though the 911 was one year older and down on power (due to TTRS being modified) and acceleration in comparison.
