While I'm excited about the car, I would never say something like, "I drive an N-car," because I'd be afraid of someone misinterpreting what I say as intending to substitute "N" for you-know-what.
Wow that didn't even cross my ind until you pointed it out. Only time will tell. Interesting observation though.

Genesis R : 429hp, 376tq
+ head of M division experience
+ pricing starting at 48K
+ Rear view camera STANDARD with a whole bunch of tech more advanced than BMW

... I'd cross shop. Those specs are from 2012 also. imagine what they can bring in +2016

Hyundai also manufactures all their parts in house starting from the steel itself so R&D for better parts isn't the problem. Bringing in the head of M division was a great move IMO

Competition = win for consumers. maybe BMW will start listening to their buyers and put some ridiculous options as standard
I doubt that Hyundai N will really compete with BMW M, probably it will compete with Honda Type R, Skoda RS and OPC Opel.

And having a rear camera standard is all fine and dandy, but does Hyundai have a system as sophisticated as iDrive? And in the future, carbon fibre in their chassis? Are the engines better than BMWs? BMW R&D doesnt fool around, they invest in the real expensive innovations, and that is a part of the cost difference between BMW and Hyundai.

Any press is good press I guess?

But to comment on a auto manufacturer saying they are making a copy when your build was essentially that (1m/m3 parts, and a bunch of fast and furious parts slapped on) was just very contradicting in itself - I laughed out loud so hard in the office.

I would take that mid engine joke over the special 328i auto with quad exhaust pipes any day of the week.

C'mon man. Stop it.

Yes - sad.

This place is starting to feel a lot like Quattro gmbh. lol.

Good point, but I'm sure BMW owners don't necessarily meet the users expressed in the article.

Colors look familiar (red/blue/white/black).....next thing someone is going to say Korea ripped off the logo from Pepsi.

Just remember Mercedes dismissed them when they said they were going to build a luxury car - Equus.... S-Class for 60% of the price. I know of a couple of people that bought the Equus, that had been Benz drivers.

I'll wait to the unveiling of the other car.

Just curious.

If these little things perform nearly as well as a BMW M, then I'm all for it. I will not replace my M, but I will buy these Hyundai N and take it to the race track for a fun track day with no regrets. I wouldn't feel as bad trashing a $40k car as opposed to an $80k M.

And to some people badges>>products.

For example: if you were a big shot business consultant working for Mckinsey or other large profile consulting company and you were invited to a black tie event with other big executives and the conversation turns from business to pleasure (in regards to motorsports) would you rather say "I drive a BMW M(3, 4, 5, 6)" or "I drive a Hyundai N". Not everyone is shallow, but a lot of people attribute cars to success (or a deep trust fund left by parents).

So much hate for no reason. Brand similarities aside, I think it looks cool. I'd never buy it, but wouldn't belittle anyone who did.

I'm all for more competition. Let's see what the Koreans have up their sleeve.

I wonder if Hyundai's N series will include a N3 and N5 for starters?

WRX / Evo killer.
For the "Fast and Furious" demographic I guess.

I wonder where North Korea got their red / white / blue ensemble from?

Christ, this is embarrassing. I am physically cringing reading many of these replies. No wonder bmw owners have such a bad reputation.

I would say I thrash my (whatever car) on the track and proceed to show drift videos all day. Then invite them to come bring their superior cars and then have them wondering how my (whatever car) is faster than theirs!

That's how it's supposed to be.
