Half Dome from the east side, shot from the Tioga road.(CA 120). Notice the line of climbers on the cable going up and down.

lol, that's cool with the climbers!
I have a similar sort of shot of the devils tower where there's 4 climbers. I think they might be a bit harder to see. They are sort of climbing up the middle in the shadow, there are 3 on the tower, and one standing beside a tree, I'd have to zoom the picture more to show the 4th person, but I'm afraid the shot was taken in JPEG and with a poor lens, so that's about as good as the shot gets. please excuse the picture, was taken back in the day before I knew anything about cameras. (still don't really) |

The 1, cool picture. I would love to get back to Wyoming some day. I enjoy seeing climbers, but even before I was injured, I would never have done that!
Gearcraft, very cool shot of the Bently grill. I was down in LA a while back and saw more Bently's in an afternoon than I usually se all year! |

Thanks, when I originally saw the climbers on it I had to do a double take to make sure I was seeing right. They looked so small.
When you see climbers on things, It really gives the world scale. |

When you go.
Tioga pass road,Mono lake,Devils Postpile and Bodie deserve a visit. Although pretty in Winter, I'm sure you see enough snow and also some roads are closed because of the depth of snow.

Lol, yeah. It's pretty white out my window as we speak.
I might be headed to Cali in April during my return trip from BC. We'll see how it all plays out. I want to go all the way down highway 101 all the way to San Diego then start tracking east, but to detour to Yosemite would be great, then get back on the highway. |

101 although a nice drive makes for A: very, very long trip B: lots of police C: a really long trip I only did it one time and only because the freeway fell down when I was at Disneyland and had to drive the coast. I drove back inland ASAP to highway 5. SF to San Diego is ~500 miles 10hr by 101 or 7 inland. Cross the border in Bellingham rather than the main one and make sure you are not traveling alone. Portland seems to be a fairly nice stop, the Oregon coast is supposed to be pretty to photograph. Head down highway 5 till you cross over to Napa and then go down the coast on 101 till Paso Robles back to 5. When going through LA don't do it during any commute hour or you will commit suicide. There has to be a million people on the roads and probably more. That drive from SF to down South has taken anywhere from 6 to 8+ hours on 5 depending on commute hours. The drive from Vancouver to SF takes 16-18 on highway 5 which is just under 1000 miles. I would imagine another 5+ hours if you want to do it on 101. My $0.02 ( where we still use pennies)

101 down the Oregon coast is a great drive. Make sure to stop in Tilamook at the cheese factory and take the tour. They have good ice cream there! |

The I-5 is so boring though, at least on 101 you get a scenic drive and it curves quite nicely in places; I-5 is all straight. If someone has not done SF to LA before, I'd definitely recommend the 101 and/or PCH as much as possible, even though it adds a lot of drive time to the trip.
Also the 101 merges into the 5 in Downtown, LA and from there to San Diego the 5 is the only route, unless you take 405 which also merges into the 5 later. You can always take 101 to PCH through Ventura, into Malibu, and then Santa Monica where you can pick up the 10 to 405 and head south to San Diego. Much nicer than driving through Downtown, LA. |
