That's Chicago. They do "frog dogs" there. Pile French fries on top of other things. Also, poppy seed bun.

NYC is more the usual hotdogs but they love to pile sauerkraut and onions. Man, I remember when younger had Greys Papaya and Papaya King. Late nights crawling home, they'd always be there to rescue you, lol. There's a spot in the East Village called Criff Dogs. They've got good food there but they also have a secret speakeasy you can get to by going into their phone booth inside. It's pretty cool.

Attaching you a chart for hotdogs. and some pics of Chicago or Frog Dogs.

Forgot the chart. Annnnddd the pictures blurry so here's the link. It's kind of a trip to see how different states and or countries do their variation of the hotdog.

NY is mustard and sauerkraut. Maybe onions in that red sauce from the guys with the carts on the street. A friend of my dad’s actually bought one of those carts because it drove him crazy that hot dogs didn’t taste the same when he made them at home. Nathan’s in Coney Island is a breed of their own. Although I do remember going into the Jewish delis and getting a hot dog.

Out of curiosity, did it work for him?

There's a Main Street breakfast/lunch shop near where I work that makes what we affectionately call sleaze dogs, which are garnished with mustard, their own in-house Texas chili sauce, and chopped onions. I had a co-worker who dedicated his life to recreating those hot dogs. He went as far as setting up a portable kitchen in our department's break room, and tried every Friday to create hot dogs that were the same as the fresh sleaze dogs that he brought in for comparison. He never succeeded, even when he had the lunch counter sell him the sleaze (chili sauce) that they make. At least the department had free lunches on Fridays from his obsession and failures...and lots of gas on the weekends from the chili and onions.

Sadly, I can't eat hot dogs any more for medical reasons.....

For the bestest tasting hot dogs first you have to make a fire, then whittle down some long sticks....

No, it didn't work. It's not about the cart, it's the dirty water in the cart.

You big softie you. Your kind words are always appreciated and means a lot. Sometimes life gets busy and you forget the simpler things - such as this place. I basically grew up here, kid to adult. Don't worry, my maturity level hasn't changed one bit. Plus have met some really amazing people all over the world and local who keep in touch even if they don't get on as much anymore either.

Okay enough mushy shit for today. Back to banning you for pineapples on pizza.

Glooomy and rainy day today, high of 82. Can't complain though after the great stretch of weather we've had recently.

Here in Portland, Oregon today - cool, a bit gloomy and 53 degrees F.

I'm fine with that, dry roads for next 7 days or so, so good there. And our summer was sizzling hot and made national headlines with two days back to back - 116 degrees, and then next day at 111 degrees. We have central A/C - but I ordered a large portable unit from Costco to supplement the main living room. And I am glad I did, even with the portable unit and central air thermostat set to 70 degrees it got to 73 in the house at peak heat of the day, which is 5PM.

But that 73 degrees felt 'chilly' after going outside to observe how hot it was. Many of if not most of our patio planter plants did not survive the sudden onset of the heat and blazing sun.

Glad to have it cool - and should remain this way, until it starts to then rain - for like 8 months, non-stop.

Cheers,
Merlin
