Why does everyone go for a small auto cross type sports car? The OP needed to be more specific and say what he wants to do with the car. Because if it's just to have fun on the streets, my vote is totally for an american sports car. Cheap, easy to fix, and tons of power.

S2k or MX-5, I would not recommend a 10k FD to anyone without alot of DIY abilities and some general rotary engine knowledge. Those cars can quickly rack up repair and maintenance costs greater than the purchase price if you don't know what you are getting into.

It all depends what you are looking for? What is the purpose of your car? Is it for fun, just you and your GF, will you use a car to go on trips (road trips etc.), will you drive in snowy areas, you have to think about all of that?

The cars that you are looking for cannot be used for multiple purposes, since they are tight inside and almost no trunk room. Rear wheel drive and low, will not be good in snow. I'm not sure about Z3 M but I drove a 99 M coupe and it is very tight in there (more room than s2k, but still).

Have you considered WRX or EVO. But if you are going for 2 seat sports car I guess you can even look at corvette.

Yes I have looked at the evo and wrx sti but they both seem a little out of the price range. I do live in colorado though so was would be good. I'm going to college soon so I may end up in Cali or Arizona

$10k sporty car, is dicey. It will have been abused for sure. Something cheap to fix like a Miata is the best bet

F-body bro. 98-2002 Camaro or Trans Am. LS1 is amazing. It sounds great, makes tons of power, easy to maintain, and almost bullet prof. Or if you can find a 93-97 F body with low miles and not molested the LT1 is absolutely bullet prof with it's iron block. Even though the LS1's and LT1's are big 5.7L V8's you could still be getting 25 mpg on the high way!

For sure. Then you can later go NA-T because it is, after all, a 2JZ.

I didn't read all of the pages... but has anyone considered the 1993 850i listed in the bmwusa website with 51k miles on the clock??

They are asking $20k... but I'm sure you could talk them down to $10k or less, my only problem is that maintenance on that thing might be $$$$

Now that would be a kick ass sports car and it would be Euro (not JDM) :P

They look nice but that's about it. I had to drive an 850Ci for a little while and you can really feel the weight of those things. They really don't have enough power to make up for it (even the V12) and the maintenance will fuck you big time, mostly because parts are hard to come by and are stupid expensive if you find them. I wouldn't do it.

And if you're talking about Euro vs JDM in the era of the 8 Series then the Japanese options far outnumber the euro ones. Japan owned the 90s when it came to sporty cars - Mark IV Supra, FD RX-7, NSX, Kouki S14 (everywhere else in the world because the motor and body kit the USDM version got sucks ass), Skyline (obviously not here), etc.

I would love to see that!
In fact, I think you should offer them $799, and it may work!
