At the minimum, if I was really interested in taking this kid down, I'd locate his address over the Internet using his plate number and then file against him in small claims court. The police might even give you his address if you tell them you want it to file in court. You could sue the kid for emotional damages. You would have no problem getting $2K out of this kid if you really pursued it. |

As I'm shure you can understand, being an Executive and all, my time is worth more than even a satisfactory claim, which his parents would certainly buffer. Great suggestion though. |

Unacceptable...I would have had his supervisor on the phone within a few minutes. Then again, I had a similar incident occur w/ me about a year ago, and I was glad the police did not end up getting involved with that. I was able to resolve that one on my own at a traffic light, hehehe.

Any time it comes down to your word against theirs, you are screwed. Innocent 'til proven guilty. No proof of what happened = no case. The only way to get this kid would have been to let him continue his tirade and alert the cops to come see it for themselves. Unfortunately, in the heat of the moment that's not the instinctive thing to do. Its really too bad the kid did not crash into an overpass or something and remove himself from the genepool. Because, like you say, he's probably going to take someone else's life before he's locked up. |

That's why you always get the bluetooth option...both hands on the wheel, high speed chase, and keep the 911 operator on the line while you tail the idiot.

For some reason, I experience a lot of envy/bitterness in people seeing me in this car. The coupe gets it a lot more than the sedan did; I'm not sure why - and whether other high end cars get that as well.

I have BT but my gut feeling, and keep in mind that I was under duress, was that 911 was inappropriate as it was a "non emergency" and I didn't have the non-emergency number handy. Also, I was driving like a total hoon trying to catch up after his off-road escape maneuver. I probably should have done several things differently, but I was so out of my mind pissed that things played out as they always do when you loose your cool..... lamentably hack. I'm just thankfull that my rear bumper was such a champ and no damage was incurred. I'd like to think that he learned his lesson, but we all know that's not likely. Thanks for all of the advice and empathy. It really attenuated my anger/frustration to share this experience with you guys. |

Filed against them in Small Claims Court and had a legal represenative from Paypal tell me that my case was the most egregious she's ever seen. She thought I was the dumbest person in the world to ever pursue it. Two months later, after maybe 7 or 8 hours of my time, the judge seteneced in my favor and not only did I get my $2,000 + the previous $500 they locked back to me within 60 days (the time the judge gave Paypal to cut me a check), but I got an extra $200 for all the fees I encountered to file against them. Paypal knows not to fuck me anymore. |

Uh ... I'm kind of surprised that most of you think it's okay to break traffic laws to "pursue" somebody who leaves the scene of an accident. It's not. You'll be cited to the same extent as the person you're pursuing.
The law also treats bodily harm much harsher than property damage. If you get caught beating down the punk you're into it a lot more than a bumper. It's a pretty sad fact of society now, but unless someone's getting axed, and even then, the cops aren't really going to do much to respond. Order of priority for law enforcement is a) people dying b) revenue generation through traffic citations. Falls out of those two categories, it's just up to how much they feel like working that day. Just do what you can to say out of the way, and call it in to make yourself feel better. |

I feel what you are saying about your time being worth a certain amount. That argument is what I use most times when sh!t happens, but this is an extremely dangerous activity and hge fled from a crime. I would think at least a few more phone calls to the Police to ask why this was dropped etc. I was cringing just thinking of what would have happened if you were going slower or he was going faster. I know it seems like a waste of time to you, but a lesson has to be made, and maybe you might save a life, even his. Rethink pursuing further action. At least call the news station, let them decide if it is worth pursuing. Then it won't be your time being used.

edgarj, props go to you for acting cool about this now. you have a good sensible head on your shoulders. had it been me i probably would have still been ape-**** mad and hired some mafia hitman to go medieval on the kid's ass.
I do like to think that this kid has stirred up some major bad driving karma for himself. While I certainly don't hope that he dies, I do hope that the kid learns a lesson...and soon. One hopes that he gets involved in a single vehicle accident with a tree where he suffers with a broken leg or arm (or two) and learns that he has to learn to respect the car. Now for the rest of you, I have a small tale of sweet street vigilante justice. You will have to satisfy yourself with this tale. It happened to my friend who is a mechanical engineer and works at a local machine shop. I was not there, unfortunately, so we will have to trust how this happened. My drives a chipped Audi A4 which moves along decently. It's no BMW ...but it has a few other stealth performance options that generates some serious speed. He was driving to work one day when he saw a new black VW Jetta ahead of him in the right lane. It was being driven by a high school teenager with three other young hooligan passengers. While driving at speed the driver side rear passenger rolled down his window, aimed and tossed a empty McDonald's disposable cup at my friend's Audi front windshield. The cup separated on impact scattering ice and remanents of pop all over the windshield. My friend was surprised to say the least. Rather than waiting to see what other items the passengers would throw at his vehicle, my friend's first reaction was to get ahead of the vehicle. A simple prod on the accelerator quickly scooted his Audi ahead of the Jetta as he cleared the windshield with the wipers. At the next street light, my friend's Audi was two cars ahead of the Jetta which was still in the other lane. My friend could see in his rear-view mirror that the teenagers were laughing in their vehicle and trying to yell out the window to my friend. As the light turned green, my friend decided to build some distance between the two cars and jumped ahead. Meanwhile the driver of the Jetta threw out a cheeseburger at my friend's car. It hit the rear bumper area of my friend's car. That was the last straw. Completely enraged, my friend braked as the road narrowed into a wide one lane road effectively forcing the Jetta to merge in behind him. Opening his sunroof, my friend sacrificed his open plastic bottle of water and tossed it out the sunroof. The water bottle bounced off the windshield of the Jetta. The Jetta driver, now egged on decided to follow pursuit as my friend laid the hammer down. The Jetta was trying to keep up. By this point they were travelling at SOME speed and the road behind had mostly cleared and other traffic was far, far, far behind both cars. Realizing that the Jetta was not backing down, my friend frantically searched around the car for other disposable items that he could throw next. CDs? Ejecting the CD he realized it was his favourite one. No. Car manuals from the glove box? No. Need that. Coins in the coin box? Must be at least $3 to $4 worth of change stuffed in the coin box. My friend said it was "totally worth it". Grabbing the entire amount of coins he tossed it up into the air through the sunroof. As the coins descended back to the ground, the Jetta tried to avoid the the cloud of coins but drove through most of them...the coins hitting the fender, windshield and hood of the Jetta. No doubt scratching the paint. Owning a black car myself, I know how easily scratches show up on a black car. Rather than admitting defeat and backing off, the teenagers continued to give chase after my friend. My friend had run out of disposables to throw out of his car. Looking down at the front passenger floor area he was reminded that he had just bought yesterday a 5 pound bag of galvanized steel 1/4 inch bolts. My friend's boss had asked him to pick up a bag at Home Depot for a project they were installing at the shop. Ripping the bag open with one hand while steering with his other hand, my friend threw several handfuls out the sunroof. The Jetta, continued its pursuit and tried to dodge and weave past but to little avail as these bolts bounced off the sheetmetal of the new Jetta. Before long the bag was nearly empty with one last handful of bolts. My friend twisted the bag shut and tossed the bag of bolts out the sunroof. The bag landed squarely on the hood of the pursuing Jetta making a satisfying thump sound. After this, the Jetta finally slowed down and turned off at the next exit. Upon getting to work, my friend's boss asked "where are my bolts?". After my friend told his boss, they both had a good laugh. Now that deserves a :rocks: |

Great story! Did you see this recent stroy ; http://www.katu.com/news/5973531.html I have no doubt that if it had been coins rather than ice, this girl would be in the pokey for some time. A colleague of mine had a great story as well... he had the same chasing asshole experience and led the chase to a road that he knew had a hard BLIND 90deg turn and went WOT untill he hit the hill and slowed just in time to make the turn. He stopped and watched the pursuing car ( a pickup truck with extra mongoloids in the back) fly over the hill and hit the woodline without even seeing the corner. Nice. |

EDIT: Er, thinking about it, what would stop the bolts from being brought down by the wind and scrapping your car as it flys backwards? Ummm, yeah, this doesn't sound like such a great idea anymore. |
