Right now with the Droid 2 the personal hotspot carries an extra fee on top of your data plan that brings the data plan cost inline with the data plan cost of the Mifi. I can't see Verizon changing that. If the iPhone with hotpsot costs less than the Mifi, I'd dump the Mifi in a nanosecond. No advantage to Verizon there.

The move away from upgrade credits is disturbing, though. I can't see that helping their business. Who do they think will be willing to fork over $200-$300 every two years for a newer phone? Businesses, maybe.

It seems like they're trying to find the upper limit of what people will spend, much like the oil companies have been doing. When they realize people aren't willing to pay $200 for a phone with a $60/mo contract (or whatever), they'll back off and offer lower data plans or subsidies on phones.

yep, cable companies are the easiest. once you sign up you get the 1yr special pricing. great. well it ends and the bill jacks up 30 or more bucks. well I'll pay that for a few months, to not seem overly greedy, then call in claiming the neighbor thing or I'm going to switch to another provider. works every time. which reminds me, they are due for their call.

i don't have much issue with the early upgrade stuff. I'm not a early switcher anyways and usually get more like 2.5-3 years off most of my phones now that I'm not smashing them at college parties or putting them down on beer soaked tables anymore haha. plus I've never got the upgrade discount. I was on a shared plan with my family for business, well my younger cousin always wanted Thea newest phones and was switching every 6 mos. in the process verizon was being dicks and letting him use other phones upgrades and renewing their contracts. i was stuck with a phone once for almost 4 years because of that little fuck.

since AT&T usually allows for yearly upgrades, I have been getting the new iPhone every time they come out w/ a new one, mainly cause I have been always been able to sell the old one for more than what the new one cost, sure I'm stuck w/ AT&T for two more years each time, but in my area I have 0 reception issues, so I'm in no rush to switch to another carrier and I get to make $50-100 each time

sux your lil cousin screwed you up like that, I didnt think that was possible

Its cheaper to keep existing customers than to get new customers.

Yes of course. But that requires YOU, the consumer, to contact the company and negotiate with them to get that treatment, vs. a program you sign up for and get the benefits automatically. Not everyone does that. And you'll find out soon enough how the company views you as a customer. Just because you've been with them a long time doesn't automatically make you a "good customer" in their eyes.

AT&T has no such upgrade credit program, other than getting the 2 year contract price, and MILLIONS upgrade every time a new iPhone comes out. They pay $200 to $300 each time, and that is with the $60+/mo voice&data plans!

Seems that AT&T has already found that limit, and Verizon was just giving away money needlessly. Sure, it will piss off some existing VZW customers, but what are they going to do, move to AT&T? Sprint? T-Mobile?

In the end, and I've said this in other similiar threads, ALL US mobile providers suck!

So tonight is the night...the iPhone goes on sale at 3 am. I wonder how the Verizon and Apple sites are going to handle the demand. I hope they're ready!

My contract with ATT ends this month and there's no way I'm going to get the iphone4 with Verizon. I don't think I can wait until the iphone5 comes out this summer b/c my 3g is lagging too hard. I want to check out the new Samsung 4g phone coming out soon

Yeah I pre-ordered too. The Verizon system was a bit buggy there at first, but after the third try I was able to get it to go through. And when the iPhone 5 comes out - I'll put this one up on eBay!

Do you have a solid source for this? The only things I've seen on it were extremely speculative.

It's been based on Apple's history of released updated iPhone models. Of course no one, short of the folks at Apple, know for sure. I am very skeptical that the iPhone 5 will be complete design of the iPhone 4. I'm leaning towards thinking it'll be an iPhone 4S, where they upgrade they storage space and processor, which keeping pretty much everything else the same.

Yeah, I'd actually imagine their next one will be a similar single-core design or maybe a very compatible dual core, but with LTE capability, and therefore be a 4GS. It would surprise me if they do get out a dual core with completely new graphics chip and supporting hardware, but the pressure is really on them due to the Android offerings coming out such as the Atrix et al.

The most reliable sources I had heard reports from were reporting that Verizon was NOT going to be on the same refresh schedule as AT&T. This wouldn't surprise me at all. It would be beneficial to Apple to stagger their releases. I wouldn't expect the next iteration of the iPhone to hit Verizon before autumn. I haven't found or heard anything that speaks otherwise, but it's entirely possible that I'm wrong.

Like you said, even only Apple knows for sure, and that's assuming they've got a hard schedule in place. Who knows, maybe AT&T gets a 4GS in summer and Verizon gets the benefit of debuting the true iPhone 5 with dual core and all that jazzy shit later in the year because of the extra development/testing/certification time.....

there is no solid info, the only thing known is its gonna be based or the Cortex-A9, so dual core CPU and a dual core SGX543 for the GPU

some rumors say there will be a world phone, meaning both CDMA/GSM on one chip, other rumors say Verizon wont get an iPhone 5 till later on in the year. At this point, no one knows

Looks like their pre-orders broke records in the first 2 hrs... so much for "not being a big deal"

this causes a dilemna as my contract with ATT ends sometime this month and my 3g phone is on the verge of dying. I don't think my phone will last till summer so I'm thinking of getting that samsung 4g phone that's supposed to come out pretty soon from verizon. what to do what to do.

yes they do, just make sure before you sync your phone w/ iTunes, you right click on your iPhone from the devices list and hit, transfer purchases

when you buy an app, its available for any iOS device that is linked w/ the iTunes account it was purchased from
