I certainly wouldn't have one around children, but it's free country and all that, so do your thing. Not going any further on this because it still gets me riled up after all these years. I hate those dogs with every fiber of my being and always will. |

I do have one and his temperment is great. I did alot of research beforhand. have always wanted a Siberian since I was young. Found a great breeder and talked to her previous puppy buyers from the two parents before buying. He is perfect, super smart, cute, and a great dog! They do require alot of exercise are do better with at least one other dog but they are great companions!

Well theres a dog park about a mile away so I'd be taking the dog there about an hour a day, plus maybe a jog 4-5 days a week. Any other suggestions for a short haired, mid to large sized dog? I was also considering a vizsla |

I get it, too many people have them blah blah blah. But you seem to want an active yet laid back dog. My lab will go and go and go for hours if needed or wants to. Yet she'll sit in the house all day and sleep on the couch with the wife and I if we want to be lazy and not bother us once and be fully content. They will do whatever you want to do. You'll be hard pressed to find such a smart, loving, loyal, athletic and lazy dog. They really are a jack of all trades dog.

You added this after my above comment.
My best friend has a Vizsla. Great dog. Much like a lab but a hell of a lot more energy and much much faster runner. Not that either are a bad thing but my buddy had HAD to go home every day at lunch to let the dog burn off some steam for 20 or so minutes let alone dedicate a good amount of time a night to the dog. I wasn't too crazy with their short coat, it's almost hairless. Kinda bothers me personally. Eitherway a great dog. If you want something more high strung then this could be your dog. A lot like a lab though but requires a lot more activity and attention.

Yea, thats pretty ridiculous. haha It seems like all the dogs i find myself liking require a shit load of activity. Do you know how far/ fast a RR can run? Like perhaps trail a bicycle for 10 miles? haha |

Vizsla's are beautiful dogs and are very affectionate, playful, and energetic. These traits are what draw many to this breed, but believe me after dogsitting a Vizsla for an extended period of time it can become taxing. It's certainly not for everyone, but for those who want to play with a dog, walk it for extended periods (maybe run if you can keep it's attention span in check) and otherwise constantly be mauled (in a good way) by a big lovable lug they are great. It should be noted that I seem to have experience with a more hyperactive example than others seem to be...passing other Vizslas on walks "mine" would be the only one to go nuts and try and chase after the other

I would not recommend making any dog run for 10 miles keeping up with a bike. Maybe 3-5. Not so much that they can't but the wear and tear you would be putting on their joints and pads would be substantial from running on pavement constantly. Most dogs in general weren't really built for long distance running/jogging but more medium range and bursts of speed. Friends of mine who train for marathons and take their dogs with them usually run a route that loops back past their house and grab the dog for the final few miles. Even wolves who travel long distances a day don't do it at a constant jog/run.
