That was helpful. I do see traffic signals now, where I didn’t before. Is the enhanced driving for downhill and turns an add on, do you think?

BMW Digital Premium is their new “feature on demand” subscription service. Requires IDrive 9 I believe.

I don't remember what the codes were, I just knew I didn't really understand what the meant so didn't want to change anything. Next time I connect to the car, I'll try to remember to save the report.
I connected to the car again tonight and pulled the DTC report. This is what it produces. Looks like a lot of weird stuff, but I don't really know. I'm not going to look for problems where there may not be any. :-) Until something in the car stops working, I'll assume it's fine, and let the BMW technicians at the shop take care of it.

Tons of unreasonable error codes is a typical pattern for cars with discharged batteries, because the various controllers and computers essentially brown out and start logging errors. Have you checked your 12V battery? The thing to do is to reset all errors, and THEN see what errors come back. Again, if you have a battery issue, you will probably have a mass recurrence when the voltage drops.

With my previous BMWs I used to get a flurry of DTCs when modules were reset after programming too.

So how does BimmerUtility differ (or is better) than BimmerCode/BimmerLink which has been out for years? The BImmerUtility reviews mention a $109 licence fee, which is pretty steep compared to BC/BL and even the paid ESys-X from a UK software firm I think was less than that.

Next, I unchecked the 5AP as others suggested and saved it to the car. No problems, or further prompts. Lastly, I backed up the new FA with an appropriate name.

I was shocked at how easy the BimmerUtility software was to use. Very cool. I did initially have trouble connecting to the wifi adapter with my phone. I'm not sure, but I suspect it may have been because I was also using my phone as the digital key when I turned on the car. Once I took the FOB into the car, then I was able to connect my phone to the wifi adapter with no problem.

I'm excited to get the new software update to see if the anti-dazzle headlights actually work. :-) Thanks to everyone in here who helped and provided information. I don't think I'd ever try something like this without the information I learned from these forums, and without others saying that they did it, and it worked for them.

Last I checked BimmerCode didn’t work with the electric vehicles.

Wouldn't 5AP be checked if it didn't work?

Did you have to install it using the license on your laptop, and then connect to it using your Android? Or did you just install it on your phone directly with the license code? I'm asking because it says only useable on ONE device.
I’m intrigued on the speed setting. Let me know what folks learn.

no it is tricky being a double negative.... it is unselected because the car here in the US comes enabled to: decode/(remove) the non-dazzle the lights feature.

I’m not aware of a code on the spec sheet that says “top speed limiter” in the same way as 5AP shows up to disable the default feature that exists outside the US.

I will let you know as soon as the OTA update is applied. It just downloaded to my phone today, so I imagine it will be applied tomorrow when I'm driving. I'll have to let it update, then I'll have to wait until night and drive when it's dark to see what the headlights do.

FYI, this looks the same as the PDF file that was posted earlier, but thought I'd put this here anyway. This is the page that comes up in the myBMW app when you look at the notes for the update. It's nice that they include it right in the app now, and with this much detail compared to earlier ones where there was very little detail.

What changed with Highway Assist? I thought that this option included lane changing with 1 tap on the stalk or looking over into the lane as part of the DAP package with H Assist. The thread above says it impacts the feel of lane keep assist. What changed? If you are not on cruise control (Steering ikon on) the vehicle is still in lane-keep mode but not as centered (Just lane keep like older BMW versions). Did this change as more aggressive when you approach the lines or is it less noticeable now?

Ok, so the update installed for me today. Here are some observations about my experience so far.
  • At first, when trying to start the install I would get a message indicating that the car is not ready for the upgrade. That would come up after I tried starting it 2 or 3 times. I ended up having to do a reboot of iDrive in the car, then the upgrade would start successfully.
  • The upgrade took about 20 minutes to complete, as it indicated in the beginning message.
  • Once it was done, I got the following notifications on my phone and in the car (in the two photos below).
  • The "Remote control" section in the myBMW app has a new button now for manually Pre-conditioning the battery in my i5 (see photo below). That button was not there before.
  • My eSIM seems to be working fine. I also got a couple of emails from T-Mobile (in addition to the notifications shown below) indicating that my eSIM is ready to go! When I tried using it in the car, and looking at it in the app, it appears to be working fine.
  • Regarding the anti-dazzle headlights - I think it's working, but it's difficult for me to say for sure. I went out for a night drive and watched the headlight symbol in the instrument cluster. It would regularly turn blue (indicating high beams) when there were no bright lights around and I could visually see the lights brighten - but that typically only happened in darker areas. If there were other cars in front, or even bright street lights it would not turn blue. Only turned blue when it was pretty dark. I never really noticed any of this before so I don't know if it is actually doing it more often now, or if it just seems that way because I'm watching for it.
  • The car prompted me to go back into the privacy settings and validate/re-check them. I did and set them to the way they were before (basically allowing everything).
  • I noticed that I have the Silent drive mode available now. The things I noticed include 1) closing the sunroof shade, 2) turning on Do Not Disturb mode, and that I was able to set it as a start-up mode if I wanted to.
  • All the DAPP stuff is working fine. Yesterday, before the upgrade, my wife and I took an hour trip each way and I noticed that the Assist Plus would not come up at all where it normally does. I also noticed that when I tap the indicator stalk for the car to change lanes, about half the time it would change normally after I checked the side mirror, and the other half it would not change lanes at all (I would have to signal and manually steer the car to the other lane). That was weird and has never happened to me before. However, today after the update, it all worked perfectly again as it should - back to normal!
  • Also during our trip yesterday, I noticed that on the way home, the nav system "lost it". It basically didn't know where we were and showed that we were driving on non-streets and random areas when we were actually on a main freeway that we have travelled before with no issue. I basically had to stop using BMW Nav and switch to Waze which knew where we were via my phone and Android Auto connection. Today after the update, the nav is all working fine again.

I think some of my issues above (like the initial install failure, the nav and the DAPP issues) were caused by maybe not rebooting the iDrive system since sometime in May 2024. Maybe some it was also caused by the server issues BMW experienced recently. Either way, perhaps an iDrive reboot is recommended every couple of months or so to keep things working well in the future. Although, I will probably just do reboots when I see something not functioning properly, or after major BMW server/app issues.

Lastly, I read that someone thought the update messed up their charging level and set it to 6 Amps. That happened to me too on Friday, but it was before I applied the update. I noticed that the app predicted my car will be charged in 39 hours! When I checked on it, the car was suddenly set to charge at 6 Amps (the minimum setting). I had to manually change it back, so that may have been another BMW server mess up. My charging settings have not changed randomly like that since the update.

I will continue to watch for improvements or other new features that I notice and post about it.

If anyone has a test I can do to confirm that the anti-dazzle is working now, let me know. The high beams seem to be activating a lot more often now than before, so that's good - I would just like a way to confirm that I'm not imagining it. :-) I hope this helps some of the folks out there who are hesitant

Good work. I wish there was a better way to confirm if anti-dazzle is working. Seems difficult for folks to know for sure or not.

I have the auto high beam here in France. Sounds like yours are working. They always seem to dip in lit areas and in urban environments. The real test is to see if they dip when approaching traffic appears or you approach another vehicle with tail lights.

How do you confirm if your anti-dazzle works?

Take the car on some "local" road at night, preferably a two way local road. You will see cars coming your way on the opposite lane as well as cars in-front of you. The blue (high beams) indicator will always be ON and the high beams will stay ON while the car in front of you or the car from the opposite are in your line of sight. You need to be moving at some speed I think its north of 30mph (cannot remember exactly, but not a parking lot speed).

The difference between the regular auto-high beams and anti-dazzle is that regular auto-high beam will always go ON/OFF, back and forth, when any light source appears in your line of sight. It doesn't have to be a car, it can be a store front or a street lamp. You will clearly see high beams go ON/OFF all the time. This IS NOT how the anti-dazzle works.

So how does the anti-dazzle work ?

Imagine driving a very dark road, standard auto high beams will come on but then immediately as any car approaches you or if you approach any car or if you come to any light source your auto high beams will turn OFF. Now, in this scenario if you have anti-dazzle lights working your high beams will stay ON. The beam of light will change though so you will see a change in the light distribution, light will be directed AWAY (via the LED matrix) from any car that is in your line of sight, but the blue high beams indicator will still be ON and the dark part of the road will still have the intense, high beam on it.

To illustrate the simplest use case, if you are driving with your auto-high beams ON but they do switch OFF as you approach a car in front of you, the anti-dazzle DOES NOT work for you. Again, this needs to be at some speed, say 30+ mph (you can google the exact figure).

Hope it helps.

In my BMW Guide I have under animations a video called ‘Selective Beam’. Sadly I can’t find a way to copy or link it ! It explains the automatic high beam perfectly.
