5 degrees right now in Chicago. Not expected to be above freezing until next week. Anxiously waiting for spring.

It's honestly ridiculous, half your life cooped up because it's either cold or raining. I gotta get outta here.

Hello all, the temperature this morning is - 31 C with a windchill of -42 C. Now for those of you confused by the Centigrade scale -40 is the same in both C and F.

On my first tour in Korea, we had a gung-ho CO who would make us run PT in sub-zero temps. We got to wear wool ski caps, but they'd freeze to your hair once you started sweating. The showers were in separate buildings from the barracks, and the walkways leading to the showers were always icy as hell. Always a fun time.

I've started to realize that the past few years. My family is all close by, and I've lived in CT my whole life. The winters just seem to be getting more intolerable each year. Normally I'm a pretty social person, and having my large family and friends close by has always made me kind of ignore winter. Now being cooped up during the pandemic, it's made me think differently. It would suck to move far away to a brand new place knowing nobody especially during a pandemic, but I find myself thinking about it more each day. Summers here are great, but now I find myself not even wanting to go out into the garage because it's so damn cold.

I was actually thinking of moving to NC with my ex 2 years ago, but we broke up before that materialized and she moved to a completely different state.

Like, when you step outside all you can do is cough until your lungs figure out the cold, cold?
Wind can suck. Without wind, I have the clothes for it.
But we once skied at Stowe when wind chill was ~-90f!! One run at a time, then hot cocoa.

When I was little, we had to walk 10 mi. to school in the driving snow &.... Well, not really.

When in college I had to replace the rod bearings of my 2002, in an unheated garage, and it didn't get as high as 10f once.

I wouldn't move away if all my family was in one place like you, that is very hard to do and i do not recommend it. But in my situation, I have a viable alternative and this is wearing me thin.

10 inches of snow fell overnight, which is unheard of anymore for Cincinnati, OH. Haven't seen this much snow fall in one night since I was in grade school and I am 37 now. Let me just say, shoveling snow sucks, even worse when your house is up on a hill. Time to move..lol

Trust me, you're not the only one! As I look outside my window now watching the last of our ~4" of snow for today taper off and seeing the 27F thermometer reading, one of the places that we're considering building our retirement garage is 64F and sunny. With the possibility of WFH becoming the norm and only one relative left here within a 3-hour's drive, it might not even be a huge leap.....
