i feel its the styling more than anything. a ferrari can look good 3-5-7 years from now but a nissan equivelant to its performance will look outdated in 2 years. thats probably the biggest difference IMO

Sounds like the OP is "the blob's" alter screen name lol. Remember him, saying he could lap the 'ring in under 10 minutes with a stock 3 on his first try haha.

well honestly, what sports cars did you expect to get better gas mileage than the average SUV? i mean, unless you drive your sports car like a panzy all day everyday, its not going to get great mileage. that's what sports cars do - they burn through gas like nobody's business when they're being driven like they're supposed to be driven...not to mention that gas mileage is near the bottom of the list of priorities when designing a sports car. bottom line is that i don't think any one is going to be shocked that the new GTR's 3.8L twin turbo V8 gets "SUV-like" gas mileage...and i don't think current OR potential GTR owners are going to care much about gas mileage either.

The car will smoke an M3 and compete head to head with a 997TT (and has proven faster in some cases). It's not my cup of tea but it's an engineering marvel. How can it not be worth $75k? Japanese manufacturers are capable of producing some extremely good sports cars. The S2000 is a much more focused car than the M3. It isn't as refined or as versatile. Also, the Miata basically reinvented the small sports car segment as another poster mentioned. Each generation since '90 has been successively better than the last. The Evo and STi have a huge following due to their extreme success in rallying. Have you driven any of these fantastic Japanese cars? The GT-R is the pinnacle of Japanese sports car engineering at this point. It comes down to preference. I like BMW's, but compared to the GT-R, I realize I'm getting a slower and less focused car for the money. To each his own. The more competition BMW has, the more motivation they'll have to improve their cars. |

so question for all the BMW badge whores then...
what BMW car currently competes with 911's and other supercars? M6? that thing is a fatty. The GT-R is built to be fast. It wasn't built so much on "what a consumer would want." Its purpose was to destroy its European rival(s). Yes, the car is blazing fast. How do you people argue with lap times though? If the new M3 CSL beats the 997TT on the 'ring, we'd see a billion threads saying "ZOMG BMW IS JAWESOME. IT WIPED THE NURBURGRING CLEAN IN AN M3. I LUFFS M3 4EVER" Frankly, you don't buy a car for the badge, you buy it for what it does. If you want to be fast, get the GT-R. If you want to be moderately fast (when you compare it to the GT-R...) with some luxury parts, get the M3. Now to the OP, the real question is are YOU serious? Have you been paying attention to any major motorsport? Subaru and Mitsubishi took over WRC for quite some time. GT-Rs were running circles around Germans. F1 has two Japanese teams competing. If anything, Japanese sports cars are more legit than the sport luxuries that Germany makes. |
