I would hope that everyone knows about the 2nd grade health class information you and smoosh are posting. But most people don't have a clue. Which makes these conversations great if someone is enlightened. One of the more interesting things i've learned from her is about liver function and that most everything your body views as poison gets processed through your liver. And most of the ingredients in processed foods is viewed as poison by your body. When your liver is overloaded and can't process everything it will throw those "poisons" into fat stores for later processing. If your body don't have enough fat stores, the liver will trigger your body to create more fat to store the poisons. That's why most people who drink a lot are fat asses. Of course as mentioned previously, level of activity and metabolism plays a large part in how individuals process the poisons. Because in addition to your liver throwing overload poisons to fat stores, you can aid in removing some of them through sweating. Anecdote warning..... A couple of weeks ago, during a weekend where i burned about 3500 calories over my BMR, i indulged in 2 servings of a very rich dessert and then had a 3rd about and hour later. I was still about 700calories under my goal, but my body revolted about 6 hours later and flushed my system, with vengeance. Balanced nutrition is key. Pro athletes can eat cheeseburgers all day because cheese burgers are somewhat balanced in terms of carbs, fat, protein. If not a little heavy on the protein if they are doing intense cardio workouts.

*SIGH
Stop comparing other people's bodies to yours, meaning - what works for Durantula / Arnold / Elvira, may not work for you... Second, all because you "work out" doesn't mean you can eat / drink whatever you want... It's the lasting effects and repercussions of things and not so much the right now that you are all focused on... Back to Gatorade - It contains sucrose and fructose SYRUP - which is just heavily refined liquified crap... We all know what this stuff leads to... Just sits in your liver, chilling, wreaking havoc... Oh ! And people look at the label and think - "oh man, there's only 14g's of sugar, not bad !!! Each Gatorade bottle has 4 servings per bottle... Everyone POUNDS the bottle (and in some cases have 5 bottles apparently) so how much liquid glycerin have you just inhaled? Yeah... Sure sure, the "athletes" will tell you they need the electrolytes will tell you the benefits of the drink... Nevermind they tend to have double the amount of sodium vs potassium, which is counterproductive because when the body is tired / exhausted etc, the last thing it needs is more sodium... Let's not forget the color dyes used in the drinks to add to the above - yellow dye #5 is now been linked to asthma... Which is really the issue - not so much the yellow dye #5, but the length of time it takes for us to realize the harmful side effects it may cause... Or how long it goes before these ill effects manifest in our bodies... Last favorite ingredient found in Gatorade - bromine brominated vegetable oil (BVO) which they use to keep the liquid looking uniform and not lumpy more aesthetically appealing... doesn't sound all that bad then, you know? Well, it doesn't, except for the fact that BVO is a main component of lead dissolving additive they use for fuel... Or they use it in agriculture fumigants... I'm sure ASB has some of this stuff on the farm, he can confirm... But BVO has been banned in over 100 countries, you know? Just not here... This is after Gatorade switched its "recipe" and used to include carcinogens in their product... Mmmm... Tasty... Try and stay away from the toxic chemicals being put out into our foods and drinks is all I'm saying... I'm sure your metabolism is one finely tuned machine, and Charmin Ultra soft appreciates the many times a day you use the product, but it's not about gaining weight / gaining muscle, it's what you're putting in your damn body that has long term ill effects... But you are right, I need to get my inheritance, so please, keep pounding them gatorades and sodas down... |

Bold part is another issue a lot of athletes have a hard time getting over. They tend to think that the salt outline on their shirt means they lose more salt and therefore need to replenish. Many studies are now saying that your body does this as a result of having too much salt. Like when taking vitamins in too high a quantity, one's pee is bright yellow/orange and stinks like their vitamin bottle. When one has too much sodium, their body's best way to unleash some of it is through sweat. But in terms of gatorade vs coconut water, the lack of sodium in coconut water is always the center point of pro gatorade peep's argument. There are even articles on the web by bloggers who have zero qualifications pontificating about how the lack of sodium in coconut water is the number one reason we shouldn't use it for endurance sports or high intensity cardio. Coconut water, for me, is like magic liquid. I really thrive off of it during long cardio sessions. Other's results may vary. All i know is that the less processed foods and drinks i consume, the better i feel.

I think it might just be you... for sure it's not me. Even after googling, i still don't know what the correlation between the two are. But maybe it's just me living under a rock.

Ah, i see. I assumed the correlation was between Chipotle and NAMBLA. (which is now in my browsing history, thanks.)
