Ha, when I first starting working in Frankfurt, my dumb American mind thought that Peets dark roast must somehow have more caffeine. So I wisely cranked out cup after cup from the office Jura and it's nearly green beans.
I think I had six cups. Then the heart palpitations kicked in. I drank a few liters of Gerolsteiner and saved myself a trip to the hospital, but it was dicey there for a few minutes. |

I like a super dark and oily roast. My preference is "Kick Ass" by Kicking Horse available on Amazon. However, I found an alternative at Costco that I like for nearly half the price so...

^^^Costco will often have interesting coffees (depending on location)...BUT...their stock is waaay too old, as in months post-roast date.
IDK about FP...maybe (just) okay for pour-over...but definitely a no-go for espresso. -Mark in St. Louis Last edited by buldogge; 03-05-2020 at 10:41 PM.. |

You could be right, but I travel a LOT for sales, and regularly buy beans from all sorts of boutique roasters. I find the Cafe Cubano beans a great value. Maybe they turn stock by me more often... whatever. What matters is I'm happy; and it isn't often I'm happy with inexpensive stuff. Don't burst my bubble!

Hmm, we drive to the Hamptons often in the C6 when the weather warms up. I’ll have to check out that place. You know what goes good with a great cup of cofffee? Apple Strudel.
Out that way not far from the Hamptons in Jamesport is Jundas Bakery. Best strudel I ever had and have had great strudel in Germany and elsewhere. Worth a stop, give it a try.

May not be as fancy as fresh roasted but works for me. I enjoy it and it's cheaper.

I have tried many, but am stuck on Papua New Guinea peaberry single origin. I order 10lbs at a time roasted to order from Blue Macaw roasters online and toss it in the freezer. We go through a lot of coffee! As a matter of fact I am down to a couple pounds, time to re-order.

Right here. I'm hypersensitive to stimulants, so if I am drinking coffee...it's pretty weak. So I don't typically drink it as it makes me feel jittery.

Variety and freshness of green beans is a primary reason. And expense of roasting equipment that's consistent enough to compare to what's readily available.
Its similar to home brew. You can do it, but it doesn't really save money or compare to commercially available products. |

Adding another recommendation for Black Rifle. My girlfriend got me a bag a few months ago and I've been addicted ever since. It's very good coffee, and strong too.

1) Lavazza Gold selection.
2) Illy I tried the Intelligentsia (Chicago) beans, but was not impressed. I was in Breck and really liked the Cabin coffee - will try to order some beans next time. |

How about a machine suggestion? Thinking about a delongi magnifica? Right now Costco has them for just under 700 and if I don’t like it I can return it.
This unit does capuchino , espresso and Americano. Plus I’d get the Nespresso frother. |

If you can increase the budget to ~2.5k I really like my Breville Oracle Touch. It is a semi-automatic machine so gives you some control, but still very fast and easy to use.
