Why doesn't this all fall under the principles and rights to the consumer to self repair and jailbreak their devices, ex phones, etc? Seems to me all this is, is a big phone in my car? has e-sim, software, UI, etc, etc.. Where is the lawyers here?

To be fair, a car is different than a phone. There are safety issues at play in a car--and warranty issues--that are in no way analogous to a phone or other electronic device.

That said, when it comes to anti-dazzle headlights, this is about enabling functionality that is now permitted in the US but is disabled on BMWs in this market because of the hangover of an anachronistic prohibition repealed in the bipartisan infrastructure bill.

It may be permitted now (has been since 2022), but the rules are significantly different and more stringent than EU laws, so it still cannot be enabled. Last I heard, it's very expensive to build headlights that actually comply with FMVSS 108. There's little chance current headlights will ever have the functionality activated.

I removed 5AP from my VO and had an OTA update and anti-dazzle is not working. This may be an issue with how the update is working on the i540 because it seems others reporting it not working appear to also be driving the i540. I checked and 5AP is still unchecked so hopefully a future update will activate the feature.

It's just one of many government agencies that need to be modernized. It would be different, in its current capacity if they actually had statistical averages on their side to prove that the policies and procedures that were in place, resulted in significantly lower accidents and injuries than their European counterparts. In reality the U.S. has the highest rate of road fatalities of any developed Nation.

Our adoption rate, of technologies is abysmal in comparison to Europe. Why did we need to completely reinvent the wheel about headlight technology and create standards that no manufacture is going to be willing to implement, due the cost of having a standard for the rest of the world and also for America. It's almost as if they do these things, to simply justify their job positions. The NHTSA would not like me to take office as President. I would fire every single person in senior and midlevel leadership positions and bring in a multinational replacement group that was able to modernize America's system, to bring us into the future.

Maybe you should read at least the executive summary of the new regs first. It provides justification as to why such rules were implemented. Here, I'll link it for you. https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.go...1-2022-web.pdf

It's main concern is glare. ADB systems can and do false negatives where they fail to adapt to a vehicle, causing glare and blinding others.

And if you still disagree with it, you can always mail them:

Refer to the docket and notice number set forth above and be submitted to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20590. Note that all petitions received will be posted without change to www.regulations.gov, including any personal information provided.

And lastly, you don't even know how government operates. You can't fire civil employees without due cause, and you definitely cannot hire non-citizens to work for the government. I feel like you're one of those that think you can make a baby in 1 month if you just get 9 women.

The government issued their regulations, it's up to capitalism to do its thing. You may think that no manufacturer might implement it, but we know that's not true. It's gonna start with luxury automakers who will charge $$$ as an option, and no other competitive manufacturer worth their salt is gonna let that slide and not have their own option.

I’ve already seen an abridged version of it, so my desire to read the entire 327 page bloated Bureaucratic report is about zero percent, but thanks. Nor would I waste a stamp on them, as it would be just as affective as writing Santa Claus.

I hold no belief that implementation will occur, in an age of cost cutting and profit maximization, so no we “do not know that’s not true”, it’s speculation on either front.

Yes, my comment about the Executive branch was sarcastic, and can assuage your concerns that I do understand how government works, even if it’s poorly in many areas.

I assure you that while obstetrics and in vitro fertilization are not my area of expertise, I am quite aware of how babies are made. So perhaps “feel” something else; I’d be more likely to be able to tell you the nuances surrounding myeloproliferative disorders or hematolymphoid malignancies, As hematology is more of my forte.

Not sure if anyone cares about this anymore, but my i5 M60 with 05AP removed (unchecked with BimmerUtility) prior to updating with the new firmware (7/2024.40), does work a treat with the anti-dazzle. First time tonight I had a chance to try it, and on US Route 1, Route 128 (I95) and Route 2 (all of these in the Boston metro area and lots of traffic) it kept the blue A on in most instances, both with oncoming and following traffic, and it was quite easy to see the beams' being "tweaked". So for a '24 i5, it is still possible to enable anti-dazzle.

It’s puzzling that this works for some of us, but not for others.

It is confusing why some but not others. But as we were going along Route 2, which has Jersey barrier down the middle, my wife was commenting on how the LHS headlamp's beam was extending, retracting, lowering and generally changing as we encountered traffic in both directions and the topography variations of the highway. The Auto A remained blue for almost all of the time, so I'm pretty sure it's "anti-dazzling".

If this anti-dazzle feature works for you, and you're in the US, AND you are driving an i5 eDrive40, let us know. I suspect it might have to do with the model.

when i worked with my Coder to do my iconic grille, I had him check the coding for the lights and he couldnt see anything in my 540 ICE vehicle to activate them...so i think we are screwed, but we'll see.
