Looks like the log jam is starting to break up. Finally out of 6 week QA check for the 540X, or was that 7 weeks. Now to get on a boat before the longshoreman's Strike and start of WW3.

I wonder if there is a way to find out if all the recall items were finished at the factory. or if they are done in US?

Joining the site and the thread as I just ordered a 540i yesterday after 32 years of Honda/Acura ownership and 32 years of driving only 5 or 6 speed manuals. I have a production number, looking forward to seeing the car actually get assigned to the schedule.

My commentary from shopping/test driving:

I will miss my manual. But probably not as much as I think once I get used to driving without it.

The chrome or black plate behind the rear doors with the "5" on it looks stupid. I wish that was sheet metal instead.

I wish the instrument panel had actual analog gauges and the video display just had the other stuff.

I wish a nice dark British Racing Green were an exterior option and a nice deep brown "natural" leather color were an interior option (Cognac is a bit too orange when I looked at it on the 3-Series, and it's not available anyway).

Otherwise, love the car and found the 540 to be a more noticeable improvement over the 530 than I expected - not only faster but the six just seemed smoother and better matched to the car than the four.

Congratulations on your order! It is also my first BMW and I got some items similar to you but would suggest considering a lighter trim than the dark oak. I got the dark oak and I can see every spect of dust on it during the daytime. Drives me crazy. There is already enough piano black gloss plastic in the center console, so I wish now that I went for something lighter (like maybe the open pore blue ash). Anyway, just thought I'd share that with you in case you decide to reconsider before your car gets past the point of allowing any changes to the order.

I love the all-black look inside, but that is definitely one thing I would have done differently because I'm always wiping the dust off the gloss black trim and center console. My interior probably looks a lot like yours will since I have the Black Veganza, Dark Oak, Luxury Seats and Premium package too.

Here are some photos of the interior when in the garage (pretty dark looking inside), and when out in the sunlight (looks much brighter). Again, congratulations and I bet you'll love the car!

SkykingUSA, I have the exact same interior as yours except I went for the Open pore blue ash precisely because of that. I'll post pictures after I finally get my car "TONIGHT AT 6PM!"

Wow, With all the dislikes, I'[m surprised you ordered one. You know there is also a 5 on the b pillar, visible when you open the front and rear doors, right under the roofline. I actually think they look pretty cool. There is a tendency (Especially in the EU) for people to order the "Badge Delete" option, so BMW wanted to make sure anyone walking by would know its a 5er. I believe the "British Racing Green" would have been available through BMW Individual. It would take longer, but still....You would get the color you wanted. As to Manual, I imagine you can put it in manual mode and use the paddle shifters. I know it's not the same, but better than nothing. I keep hoping someone will come out with an analog gauge program that will make the gauges look like that.

We looked at that and per my dealer the "individual" color option was only available on some models (e.g., in the 3 Series it was only available on the M3). But in the 5 series it was moot for me as I was pretty topped out on my budget as is so individual color really wasn't an option (nor was the Tanzanite Blue, which I also really like, though my wife doesn't care for it), at something $1300 more than the black metallic.

I know I led with a lot of negatives, but they are all relative nits and just a wish list. I'm very much looking forward to taking delivery.

You should try anti-static dust spray. non residue, non toxic and works.
