Ed, great job of focusing through the weeds.

Thanks Dave. Most of the credit goes to the 7D2 and the big white for the focus staying locked

These little cottontails really stay in the brush compared to their jackrabbit cousins, and are really tough to get out in the open for a clean shot.

I drove an hour away to a regional park only to find the parking lot and main trails closed due to flooding. I was kind of peeved at the waste of time, and stopped at the waterfront five minutes from my house by the railroad tracks to watch for any trains, when I looked up to find this guy hunting. The day was saved!

Thanks Dave. I continue to struggle to find the right exposure value to not blow out their white feathers but keep the noise to a low level when pushing the shadows. I should probably have tried the 5DIV, but these are small birds and pixels count as well.

Yes, the MkIV does, indeed give more latitude.

I adapted the philosophy of not blowing out "important highlights". On all my white birds in full sun, if you look at the preview, after I pull down highlights in Raw conversion, there will still be small areas that are blinking. I think that this is far better than making all the highlights too dark, which I think is a common mistake by many, not you, that try to save ALL highlights.

This attitude has improved the overall look of my shots of birds with white, IMO.

Ed, great kite shot. I want to shoot those some day.

Here's a Wandering Tattler, hunting the tidal pools on the North Shore of Hawaii, at Turtle Bay:

We're looking at a Hawaii trip in Sept, DC, so take notes on where to shoot.

Mark, going to Oahu or Maui?

Oahu is ok to shoot but I think you would enjoy some of the other islands more. Then again it has Pearl and you get to watch some nice military jets flying around too.

I think that the key to enjoying Oahu is staying away from Wakiki. The North Shore is fantastic.
