Although I agree with the bulk of your post, I disagree with this point if you define success as winning the Driver's Championship.

I think it's very likely he will be successful this year. He is fast (no one can argue that point) and his car is objectively fast. His other behaviors notwithstanding, that is the typical recipe for winning in F1.

I do hope it remains close, it makes for an exciting season.

Figured I'd chime in, what happened in Silverstone was a racing incident, they both could've given each other a bit more room, after how close they were at the beginning of the sprint race, not really surprised of this result. Would've made for a better race with both cars competing.

Should ramp up the intensity for the rest of the season, hopefully with less crashes.

Also, favorite driver by far is Ricciardo.

The great Schumacher tried to take out Villeneuve intentionally, you can see him turn into him before the corner. Schumacher was out of the race and Villeneuve continued on. The penalty was still pretty harsh, lost all his points that season and disqualified from the 1997 World Championship.

There were many fast drivers in fast cars that don't win champions for various reasons.

Crashes, DNF, reliability, etc, etc.

You don't remember the ones who almost won.....they get forgotten easily.

None of that is what we are discussing here, we are discussing how the penalty given doesn't consider what happens after the contact.

If Villeneuve went off the track and hit something else and died, the penalty would have still been the same. (Schumacher lost all his points that season and disqualified from the 1997 World Championship.)

If Max continued on and won the race or died, the penalty in theory should have still been the same.

That's how they judge it, not based on what happened after, which seems like a too hard a concept for some to understand.

Exactly, it is Judged on The move.... not what happened after.

A dangerous move (intentionally turning into a car) gets a harsh penalty = (lost all his points that season and disqualified from the 1997 World Championship.)

Light contact with no intent, both drivers share fault, 1 determined predominantly more at fault = 10 sec. (in this case)
Doesn't matter if what happened after the move resulted in a big crash or a small crash.
