Darrick, you have a "dark eye". I assume that you intentionally go for kind of a Gothic vibe. I lean toward the "realistic" side for my own work, but enjoy the darker work of other photographers.
I only mention it because I've run into lots of people that haven't calibrated their monitors and the process their pix with a very bright monitor setup and end up producing dark finished images when view by those of us with calibrated monitors.

My screen is calibrated (granted it's a six year old laptop) as far as I can tell. If I calibrate it myself my black and whites (which I know are black and white) come up Sepia toned, so I know that's not right. I know I usually use a brighter screen when I edit. My living room is pretty bright and as a result I usually can't see my screen very well unless the brightness is up a bit. I think it's just one of those things that's going to have issues for awhile. |

Double post, I know. *slaps self on wrist*
I like the idea, and the location but the haze over the photo makes it weird for me. The colors throw me off too because it seems to clash together and I can't seem to find a balance. That's just me and my opinion though. Every artist is different. ;] |

Anyway, with my old Lenovo laptop I often had to reprocess my images when I got home from a trip, even though I'd calibrated the screen. With my new Surface, I've not had to reprocess any images at all. The real test is to make some prints. Even with a relatively inexpensive photo printer, if your prints are too dark, then you monitor is probably too bright. Also, the room doesn't need to be totally dark, but processing in a bright room can contribute to too-dark prints. Anyway, if your prints are too dark, then you know that most serious viewers of your images are seeing them on the internet as too dark. Of course, the "serious viewers" are probably a minority, except at places like here.

JMG, great Zion shot. I love that 24-105mm lens. Love the B&W interpretation.

Maybe that's why they're practically giving away the 5D MkIII/24-105 combo. Saw it today for $2499. I think I paid about $500 more than that for just the 5D MkIII.
My 24-105 is my most used lens by a wide margin. I love the thing. If the new one is better, which I'm sure it will be, I'll give away my current one and grab a new one.
