The Detroit ghettos appear much worse though. Hell, even some decent areas of the city (and yes there are some) aren't too easy on the eyes. The abandoned buildings need to go. So does a certain demographic (interesting reading about how young the median age is, causing it to be harder for do-gooders to try to uproot them and restore the city).
What really surprises me is no major waste company has come in there and started demoing buildings for positive PR. Instead of donating a few million to some useless cause, they could clean up whole areas and get great press doing it. Can't start rebuilding some of those areas until you get all the dilapidated buildings out of the way first.

Born in Leeuwarden, capital of Friesland, Mata Hari was born there too.

Raised in Heerenveen, famous of its World Cup Ice Skating stadium, a good football club(6th in the Dutch Topdivision ranking, winning last sunday 5-1 from number one AZ Alkmaar)

Famous (..) people born in my hometown, Wim Duisenberg, former president of the European Bank, and 'founder'of the EURO currency .......some 15 years ago

Born nearby, some 10 miles from here: Peter Stuyvesant, one of the founding fathers of New Amsterdam/New York almost 400 years ago.

And Doutzen Kroes( Victoria's Secret/L'Oreal topmodel) also born about 15 miles from were I was raised/live.

Suffolk here. Good place to raise kids and be rich. Neither of which I'm currently experiencing, so hopefully I'll be gtfo after graduating, even if it is just to NYC.

Bellingham, WA born and raised - would imagine the only thing we would be nationally known for would be Ski to Sea. Ive never seen it, they have a huge beer garden that same day and that's where I would be found lol.

We are between Seattle and Vancouver, BC so pretty much have anything at our disposal within a reasonable distance. Could stand to be a little hotter but I think the pleasant surroundings year around makes up for that a bit.
