well after reading all these resoponses I'm just glad I can think about how I drive and if I apply that to rsjames' definition of a street racer then that means I don't qualify to be a street racer. woohoo!!! we all enjoy spirited driving just be aware of others and cautious of your surroundings. as far as driving drunk - never done it never will. definitely proud of that.

Staying on your side of the road doesn't mean a deer won't jump out and if you're doing twice the speed limit chances are you are either going to 1. hit it, 2. swerve off the road and crash, or 3. swerve into oncoming traffic and hit someone head on. Going 120 on an empty highway is not a great idea either. Hit a nasty patch of pavement and lose control, you can cross the median into oncoming traffic (see thread about girl who died in her dad's Porsche). Driving over the speed limit is reckless irregardless of where you are, what car you're in, who is around you, etc.

Bummer of a wreck.................
Think I was driving a 1973 Datsun pickup when I was 18 and working at the local semi-conductor plant. Must have been nice to destroy that kind of vehicle, your life and others lives at that age. Rephrase: I wish I even had access to a vehicle that nice when I was 18, not sure if I would have lived either with my lead foot at that age. I don't remember if street racing was big or not when I was in high school in the early 80's. We were all usually walking to a keg party since we couldn't afford cars, the rich kids had some nice cars. I just don't remember street racing being big back then even amongst the socialites with there high dollar daddy mobiles... RIP hope the girls are ok, I would assume there out of the hospital by now?? Last edited by shnapper; 03-23-2007 at 12:53 AM.. |

Ill talk shit directly to his face if i ever saw him and he said something out of place to me, thats not the point of this thread though. Just a lot of little kids on here like you tryin to talk like they know something. Ive been in car crashes, lost friends to race related accidents, and its really messed up but in the end if its your time i guess its just your time. Ill always drive fast, hate all day but thats just how it is. I say that and 7 out of 10 morons on here assume im going to be doin 140mph thru a school zone at 3:00pm, thats just dumb. I drive fast where i can without endangering peoples lives. Give it a rest, everyone feels bad for the driver that passed in the M3 but im sure some people dislike him for what he did to those girls, its always a shitty situation and you just gotta move on. |

Nah. Just thought things were getting away from the point (I think) which was to show what happens when people get stupid and street race. Only slightly less dangerous would be racing on the highway, but out here in the desert, the only thing you're going to kill (other than yourself) are the cactus...

fragadellic - bad advice. i hit a cactus once in a dune buggy. and he sued me for everything i had. now hes living in a 20 acre estate out in the desert he grew up in. bastard. next time i see him im gonna make cactus cooler out of him!
socal335i - in regards to your "i dont back down" blah blah blah....wanna put your money where your mouth is? :-D we're getting off subject here though, the facts are this: at least 1 inexperienced driver, didnt think about the consequences or about the occupants of his vehicle, did it at the wrong place(i know that area really well and it is NOT an ideal place for a race). lets face the facts guys, people are going to do it whether we like it or not so if they're going to do it why not at least be safe about it. get some people together, close off some streets late at night that have no traffic, show whos the fastest, exchange the cash(if any), and call it a night. we've all in some way been involved in something like this. hell our dads did this stuff all the time during the 60s/70s and they had cars that were faster, didnt brake/handle as well, and didnt have the myriad safety mechanisms like our cars do now. dont flame the people for doing it because they'll totally miss your point. instead, educate them about what can happen if you do mess up, and c'mon guys if you're going to do it, at least take as many safety precautions as you can. go ahead and laugh at me, when i decide to spend some time in the canyons in my car, i wear a helmet. but seeing as ive wrecked a few cars(err flipped/rolled i should say) i'd much rather be laughed at for wearing a helmet than be laughed at for being a vegetable. in hindsight, if this guy knew he was going to race the M3, do the gentlemanly thing and politely ask the girls to stand a safe distance away JUST IN CASE. thats all i can really think of because no matter what we do it'll happen anyway.
