the CLS isn't bad, it really is the only car in its class, very unique.

I will have to see the new S-Class in the flesh, but the design looks very awkward in the photos. Looks kinda Maybach-ish. It will apparently be a showcase of technology though, so I like that bit...

... oh and as for the haters, and people that tell me that I should have gotten a cheaper car...

My boss started and then I said, well I don't have 3 children going to private school and a wife that stays at home, so I can afford it, he shut up at that point.

Our Marketing Manager couldn't stop talking about it, and went all over the company talking about it to the other Managers - I kind of resented that because it is really none of anyone's business and he only found out because he overheard a conversation.

What I usually do to these people though (started getting it with the Audi) is to find out what they really love in life, like travel, mountain biking, skiing, whatever. Invariably I find out that they paid unreal sums for something involved in what they love, and I draw the comparison - "Everybody has at least one or two things which are passions in their life, and it is great to spend money to get the best of [insert passion here], mine is driving, and so I deserve to get a good car because I will get much pleasure from it, so it isn't a waste of money for me..."

Most people stop arguing with me when I put it like that.

If you love something, spend money on it. You could die tomorrow, and everyone deserves to have at least one thing that is special in their lives beyond the people they love. Denying yourself doesn't make you a better person - just like eating healthy food doesn't make you live longer, it just seems like longer

I just say I drive an old Benz now (the family beater), then I'm not lying to them and they don't make a comment out of jealously.

Or you could be nice and explain it like JamieA did.

Or you can tell them what you drive, then be like, "Hahaha, just kidding, that's just my beater, my main ride is a Lambo."

Or you could stab them in the face with a soldering iron.

Most people your age assume you've "worked the system" to get into the car. What I mean by that is people assume one of the following #1- you live with your parents and have no living expenses, #2-you were given the car as a gift from your parents. #3-you're a member of the lucky sperm club and have a nice trust fund to blow cash.

Some people, right so, believe having a car payment that's higher than your rent payment as a sign of misplaced priorities.

Good post, although I found it a bit surprising you'd get that kind of reaction from management types... I've never gotten a negative reaction, but BMWs are so common around here, I'm surprised anyone in Southern cal would get any negativity about their (nice) cars.

Like Nikki, I also don't spend a lot on things like clothes, shoes, this was quite an extravagant purchase for me. I guess since I come from a working class background, (dad worked in a GM plant, sister still does, back in New York) I sometimes, depending on who I'm talking to (manager/professional level or not), feel a need to justify in some way my car (by pointing out that the only reason I can afford it, is because I'd accumulated espp shares in the company I work for that covered the cost of the car, am paying cash.), even though, like I said, no ones been anything other than congratulatory about it. I know I shouldn't feel that way at all. There are at least a couple of other luxury level cars among the staff on my team at work, that I know are more expensive than my car. (tax software developers)

(liked the comment about food -- you mean you don't eat vegemite? )

Luckily, most people have no idea how expensive some of my watches are.

Some people would chop my arm off.

You mean you have more than one? GOOD FOR YOU!!! If you love watches, may you enjoy the money you work for and buy as many as you like!!!

Cars are my passion, and in a country where it's very expensive to buy fancy cars - I always get "ragged" on about my car.

I feel sorry for these people when I really make it. Mad as it is, If I can afford it, I will have more than one car, and I will have exotic cars and all. This is just the beginning.

Has anyone gotten the "What are you going to aspire to drive?"

I am going to aspire to drive the next 3 Series, and after that, the NEXT 3 Series and after that...every other series(1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and bmw can even make a special 9 series just for me.)

I bought my car (with my own cash) because I felt I deserved it. Cars are my biggest passion since I was a little kid - and I deserve to have a car I love.

I spent my money on my car - my mother (who rags on me all the time) is spending her money on a face lift?? Now...who needs the lecture?

I currently own the new E90Post record for "LONGEST TIME ON E90POST.COM CONTINUOUSLY"...I have been online now...E90POST ONLY....for 17hrs and 20mins!!!!!:rocks:
