The SV650 and 650R are both more beginner sportbikes but have more power than you'll grow out of. The supersports are just so twitchy that a little twist at the wrong time can literally throw you off the back or point you skyward, as you found out. The bikes I recommend are fast but not as sketchy. You can pick up newer SV's for pretty cheap too because they're pretty plentiful and aren't too pricey to begin with - Think a Honda S2000 in bike form. If you got a great deal you probably wont take a huge loss either. Also, just before beginning of summer is the best time to sell, as that's when bike prices appreciate due to people buying. During winter is when you'll get the least amount for them.

wow the brutality on here. Critical just went up a few notches. Listen dude. There was obviously operator's error on your part. Look at the region you're living in. Florida is made up a lot of straight lines on the interstate and main roads. So if you want to extend the swingarms, then aby all means. Just learn to ride. No need to take a financial hit and be dissuaded. Learn to ride, then learn the bike and you'll be good to go. Just remember to respect the bike and it will not harm you too much. All it took was one spill for me on the R6, and it was my first bike. I tried to hard to keep up with experienced riders and I crashed. That was 5 years ago and my only spill on two wheels. I learned how to ride and I learned the bike. Now I"m knee dragging and fully suited up everytime I ride.

Liter bike with limited experience, not a good idea (I read a few posts saying the same thing).
If you're going to keep the bike, which it looks like you are, at least wear the gear. I can't stand seeing squids in shorts/flip flops/no helmet (not saying this is you). |

okay so you plan on selling the bike. Not a bad decision, and a very wise one. I apologize for being a douche bag, I am part of a motorcycle forum and you will not believe how many people never take advice and start off on something like a 600cc SS or a 1000cc litre bike. It gridns my gears every single time i see anything remotely close to someone being on a motorcycle that they in no way shape or form are able or supposed to ride. I was once in a dilemma a year ago, when I wanted to choose a first motorcycle. I was contemplating a 600cc SS as my first motorcycle. I realized after asking on this forum and the motorcycle forum that doing so would be one of the worst decisions ever. So I bought a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R.
Now if you feel you have the desire to ride, then suit up and get something like the suggestions that many have made. I suggest you take a look at this thread http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192538 |

I weigh a 140lbs, they are light and easy to get used to. I'm not saying getting a 250cc is the best option, but it is deffinetly an option for many. Besides 250cc go like nothing when being resold. Especially the 08+ models since they look totally different and better than previous models.
