It's crazy but Vettel could still potentially go to Mercedes. It's the team that he's always been eyeing.

Will Hamilton allow it? What will happen to Bottas? Who knows...

One thing to note is that the Mercedes F1 team was told by Mercedes that they need to be financially independent. While it would take a fortune to sign 2 super stars, if Vettel joins Merc, a German driver to a German team is going to create some major hype and bring it major sponsorship money.

It's wild and borderline insane if it happens. But this scenario is definitely still possible.

Yup, I'm in total agreement. If Mercedes' goal is to help Hamilton break Schumi's record, than Vettel does not fit into the picture and Bottas is enough to make that happen. This is the most likely scenario.

I think Mercedes will continue their dominant form in 2021. It will be interesting to see what happens to Mercedes 2022 and onward...
This year is a contract year for Hamilton (and the new announcements closed the door for him to go to Ferrari), the rumors of Toto being linked to AM, and rumors of Merc talking about leaving the sport overall.

All this and the 2020 season hasn't even started!

I can't imagine Vettel going to Merc.

I'm sure they are very happy with Bottas who has done everything they have asked of him, often to the detriment of his own results, to ensure Hamilton wins the big prize for them.

As a Vettel fan I'm happy with him retiring after 2020. George Russell is ready to join Mercedes. They shouldn't waste more years on Bottas when they can start preparing him to be the one defending against VER, LEC, and other young drivers in the future.
