The new ATS-V is a bad ass performer and I could live with the interior but it's nearly 100k.

That would be a good deal, my buddy had a 2012 back when new and paid 55k IIRC. I still think it was insane and he only kept it a year.

Huh? One minute you said buy a cts-v and the next you said you don't get "hard core" track coupes and sedans. By many measures this Camaro is simply a lighter cheaper coupe version of the cts-v.

I'm sure the ZL1 is a very comfortable street car. Probably the same or more so than my 135i.

Maybe he means the CTS-V?, but of course that is intended to be an M5 competitor.

My bad, $78,930.00. I must have been thinking of the Merc when I read this article.

I was being sarcastic. That's the typical response around here and in car magazines about American cars that beat BMW at their own game. For example, go read the latest Car and Driver article on the new Alfa (Alpha) Romero vs. the CATS-V, M3 and C63... the Cadillac is the least expensive, handles and brakes the best, has the best steering, but is slightly slower than the Alpha... wait for it... but the interior sucks.

So much of it is subjective and most "automotive journalists" are bought and paid for. We like what we like.

If we only compare it objectively, with track times, price and straight numbers it only looks better.

I want to like this car. GM knows electrically-adjustable suspension as well as anyone; and apparently this is a great handling car. It's like a poor-man's Corvette with a back seat!

My two biggest problems are the following...

1. The limited storage and utilitarian aspect of this car is a challenge for me. I play golf at least once a week; and I transport small boxes for work all the time. This car is a big step backwards in this regard compared to my F30 and other vehicles I'm considering. I'm not sure I can even get my cart bag in a Camaro's trunk without pulling some clubs out first.

2. I really despise GM's MyQ telematics system. I rented a loaded Cadillac last year and cursed the system all week long. Call me petty but this is an important aspect to me. MyQ nearly rules out all GM vehicles for me. It's actually sad.

I'm going to take another look at the NY Auto Show in a couple of weeks. Maybe I can make it work but there is stiff competition to be my next car!

I'm not sure if the backseats fold down but if they do then you wouldn't need to worry about your clubs. I remember seeing a review on a 2017 1LE (not ZL1 1LE) and that guy said you had to remove the driver (I think) to get it to fit into the trunk.

The trunk is a decent size but the opening is design poorly. I thought GM would have fixed since the 5th gen has the exact same opening. I guess they forgot.

Sorry about the Cue system dislike's but I don't care much about any of those systems for any car.

And if you want to compare the Cue system or trunk size, just go find any model 6th gen Camaro. Then when you see the ZL1, you'll just be into the car itself and not wondering if the trunk opening is big enough or can you get a box in there.

Check them out on autotrader or cars.com; one year later they are down in the mid-40s and low 50s. Caddy went all out on these cars but they depreciate like crazy.

5th gen was a very stiff chassis, the opening, while small, boosted stiffness I'm sure. They tried to do everything they could, including mounting the battery deep in the trunk. The 6th does everything better in this regard, but first and foremost, it's about performance. That's a sacrifice I'm fine with.

I highly doubt that the smaller opening gives that much more rigidity to the car. It's at the very rear of the car.

So I was intrigued and went to go check one out. The interior doesn't suck but it's also not good.

I still want to test drive one, it's definitely in the running to be my next car.

BMW won't make a M version of the 4 grand coupe because it's not rigid enough.
