I went from my dream car which was an M3, e92 in this case, to a 13 Golf R. Did so many things to it to try and fall in love with it but just couldn't get over how much it cost, how much it lacked compared to my M3 for features and how slow it was. Only good thing that came out of it were the friends I made. Now that I'm back in the M3 I feel at home again.

Can't really say I've had any regrets to be honest. I've only had 6 cars in my life, and still have 4 of them currently. I do a lot of research on them, and then buy them for a particular reason. I don't expect them to do absolutely everything well, and don't get mad if they need repairs (5 of them were BMW's....)

To be honest, I had one for the weekend (I already purchased my E92 M3 at that point, although it was almost stock at that point). Of course, I loved the looks of it, but I personally didn't see what the big deal was about. What was your reason?

Audi TT 1.8.
The car was fun, albeit kinda slow. But it couldn't take the abuse of the southern summer, and the interior paint and plastic melted into a giant sticky mess. Took a large loss at resale because with the interior in poor shape it was hard to pass as anything but "fair" value. |

Ironically when I first got my (used) E90 M3 I immediately regretted it. Had the worst case of buyer's remorse ever which is odd for me because I never ever had buyer's remorse on any car I had besides that one.
In the end the car totally grew on me and was definitely one of the best cars I ever owned. I owned a used 2006 Hyundai Elantra once as a daily driver. Bought sight unseen. Now elantras are never great cars but this one had obviously not been maintained. Total pile of crap. Had to fix a bunch of stuff and like all Hyundai cars you fall out of love with them fast. My Honda daily drivers have been much much better. |

Probably my GLE. It was a great deal and it has served its purpose well, but I drive GLE's every day at work (I sell Benz's) and I knew it was too slow and floppy for me to enjoy. Couldn't pass up the deal though. It's very comfortable, love the driving position, great stereo, tons of room, but just so damn slow. Looking forward to September when I can put it on LeaseTrader and get a GLE43/Cayenne/X5.

Honda Civic LX 09 Lease. Not a bad car but in retrospect I lost a lot on the lease. I needed a car, my Ford blew head gaskets and had high mileage.

My '16 MX-5 Sport. All the reviews said the shifter was great and the exhaust note had a nice note. Nope, didn't like either and didn't like that dealership. I should have walked, but I also wanted out of my R56 MINI.

Nope.
I do all of my research way before I even get into a car. So I don't make the mistake of buying the wrong thing.

In 2011 I bought my first BMW. It was a 2008 E92 335i 6spd, and I loved it. JB4, DPs, MPE Exhaust, MS Spacers, the hole nine yards.
In 2014 I traded it in for a 2011 E90 M3 ZCP DCT, and it was miles above the 335i I had and I fell in love with it too. But the thought of my rod bearings going out was haunting me so I traded it in for a truck. Several trucks actually. 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 2013 Toyota Tundra Rock Warrior All trucks within weeks of each other. The dealership worked with me until I found a truck I really wanted and the Tundra made me feel better about the deal. But i truly regretted it in the end. A year later, I'm back into a 2011 E90 M3. But in a couple months here, I will be getting an F10 M5, so theres that. lol Last edited by ///3dkn; 03-08-2017 at 01:17 AM.. |

GT-R...Decided to pay cash for one a 3 years ago instead of putting it down on my realistic dream car (Gallardo) which I sill haven't managed to get. Yes it was fast and alot of fun but Japanese cars just dont do it for me. Also way to much attention from young boys. Ended up keeping it for 2 summers and selling if for 4k less then I paid which isn't bad. 12 Rover.. Bought one at a auction for cheap that had a pretty bad accident. Ended up having some problems and needed lots paint work. Was a really nice car though. Had a better interior then my 14 Rover. Ended up selling it before even owning it a year. |

I "needed" to get a car rather quickly as my 2000 VW Golf GL with a manual transmission was finally giving me some problems (230K miles). So, I wanted to replace it with another Golf. Only problem, they only had automatic. So, I thought it'd be more versatile for the extended family (wife LOVES driving manual, but no one else in the family can).
So that lasted all of 3 months. I was BORED out of my mind driving an automatic. Traded it in on a GTI with a manual and haven't been happier.

It this emissions system that is a PoS. Car is 100% stock for 75K of its life (JBD mild on at 75K for fun, but not even at 100%) I average 2 CELs a year for the past 4 years. In my previous 25 years of driving, all my cars combined got 1 CEL (> 500K cumulative miles driven). The only non-emissions issue was turbo oil return leak, a common item on them. - Both NoX sensors replaces - Urea tank replaced - Multiple attempts to diagnose SCR codes before replacing tank - Full carbon cleaning at 72K or so - 1 failed injector (post carbon cleaning but about same time) Car has 81K on it, cruising the other day SES back on and its NoX efficiency code again (the one that started it all, my very first code at 33K) When working I love the car, its perfect for what I need it for save not having a 6 speed and a locking diff. When not working, its clearly the biggest lemon of my purchasing life and I regret not holding out for the 328 sport wagon unicorn I was also looking for at the time. All that said I will repair it again and if the estimate is high reconsider the delete: I was all set to do it last fall but had to cancel that appointment due to factors outside of my control. - b |

Dodge Intrepid (about 10 cars ago). Never buy a car that's also a major rental model. The resale/trade value sucks.
