Yeah, expensive (OVER $300). There is no replacement "bulb". I think the light bar is LED or something - it's very thin and it doesn't look like the visor assembly comes apart to replace anything.

Even though it may look like the light is on in the picture below, it is off.

Well things have moved along since my last post where I mentioned writing the President of BMW Canada

My ordered car is still in Europe.

BMW Canada found me a similar unsold car to what I ordered at a dealership in Canada. The exterior colour is different but it has all the options I ordered plus a few additional options (value $3,300.00). It will be at my dealers within the next week or so.

My cost for the car doesn't change and there is no extra shipping cost. I don't know if the recalls were done at the other dealership but my dealer has the brake and steering parts in stock for me in case they are needed.

That's kind of unreal to me. And quite honestly, I'm disappointed in BMW. In a day and age of sustainability, designing a visor in which the light can't be replaced, is just poor planning. I mean, the chances of needing to replace an LED, especially in that location, over its lifetime is clearly low, but you've already defied the odds. It's even more ironic that in this specific situation, it's in a vehicle that is more environmentally friendly.

That sounds like great news. Congratulations and I hope it goes smoothly and as expected from now forward! Remember to post pictures of your car when you get it.

What shocked me was the complete lack of communication on the stop sales.

I really feel for the Dealers who are floating aimlessly without clear direction from Corporate.

There was no way my dealer, or any dealer, was going to be able to have any influence with Corporate. I believe that Corporate simply lacks the skills and training to manage a communication program for an issue of this magnitude.

This is not a dealer problem, because Dealers cannot make the fast & sweeping changes needed to manage something like this.

There are three groups of clients affected

1.Current owners,
2.Current Leasing clients
3.New buyers/leasors with or without a car

Each group has different and solvable needs.

So much good will could have been generated with customers if this whole situation had been handled better.

BMW had an opportunity to really shine here, but the sheer number of cars affected and then a second recall paralized their thinking.

This whole problem would make a great business school project/exam question.

Truer words have never been spoken. I feel like you should pen a letter to BWM’s CEO.

Wonder if the dealer asssociation for North American/US/Canada is likely to be penning something similar to the Dodge dealers in the US soon?

If they can’t get ordered stock in efficiently, they’re delaying their pay day on sale for quite some time. It sucks for the end customer but this sucks for the B2B side of the chain too.

Thanks for your comments

If BMW Canada hadn't come through my next step was to write to the brother / sister team of Stefan & Susanne who own 50% of the Stock

The probabilty of anything happening is small but then I am sure that they think their customers are being kept in the loop and understand all the BMW is doing to fix the problem.

Remember it is unlikley that either Stefan or Susanne have ever actually gone and bought a car, or had to deal with a problem that can't seem to be fixed, despite multipe trips back to the dealership.

BMW doesn't have a Ross Perot on their Board. Ross was a huge PIA while he was GM's largest shareholder.

He picked up his cars at the dealership so they couldn't be made nice.

The question “Who owns BMW?” is further distinguished by half of all long-term shareholders being a part of the Quandt family, and the other half being owned by public investors.

29%=Stefan Quandt: A German industrialist and engineer
21%=Susanne Klatten: Successful investor and sister to Stefan Quandt
50%=Public Float: This represents the shares that are owned by public investors.

Here is the NYt article on Ross Perot

https://www.nytimes.com/1986/04/27/b...all-perot.html

Model of G60 You Ordered: 550e
Date of Order: 7/01/24
Original Production Date: 9/02/24
Current Production Status: At the Port (VPC Brunswick)
Final Production Date:9/27/24
Vehicle Current Location (Country): USA
Vehicle Destination Port: Brunswick
Delivery Date: tbd - Genius says VPC processing will be done by 9/30
Total Time Production to Delivery: tbd
Special Order items: none

Getting very close. Curiously it changed status from In Transit to At the Port while the ship was still at sea from Baltimore to Brunswick, but I confirmed with BMW Genius that it has made it as far as the Brunswick VPC and has no holds on it.

FYI,

My 550e arrived at the port last week.

Spoke with Genius line this afternoon. She said it could be 4-6 weeks at the port before car hits a boat.

I think this is the longest I've ever waited for a BMW order.

All of a sudden, my car made to port in Halifax. The Trackmybmw software seems to capture changes very late rather than gradually. I’m told three weeks or so to go..
Now the negotiations start.

I find that time quote by them absurd. There are 8 shipments during the month of November. Surely they can get the damn thing on one of those. That’s over 50,000 cars and they only produce 1,500ish a day 🤦‍♂️

The boats carry other brands too. Thats why they stop in Gothenburg (Volvo) for example, and maybe for British cars in Southampton. Some also pick up at ports in the US.. So the math is more complicated. But for Priority 1 cars (sold already), there should not be long waits, all things considered.

WOW this makes me feel bad for getting so impatient and starting to get annoyed.

Mine has been at the dealer since September in the UK and I am starting to lose patience, and it is only a 40.
