I liked the guy with the chrome Slingerland set but got lost after 2112.
Actually I have a 70s chrome slingerland set. It is pretty much sized the same as that guy with the orange Ludwig Vistalite set who is probably my fave.
The syncopations coupled with John Paul Jones ghost notes intrigued the hell out of me as a kid.
Part of the reason I really like funk.
Other than that they all were compared to Buddy Rich standards.
It's the cheese I don't like, spandex, hair spray & stupid songs. Spinal Tap is an exception.

Fleetwood does not belong on the list - just not a very good drummer, technical or otherwise. The engineers on the classic FM albums worked hard to minimize his disruption to the songs he accompanied.

Fan of Bonham and Peart myself...I could see either one being #1 for good reason.

Nobody listed Buddy Rich (unless I missed it, sorry if I did). Guy was a leader...impeccable timing. Got to be a top 5.

Not a Rush fan, but Peart is awesome.

2 names not already mentioned are Matt Cameron and Chad Smith. Everyone had different things that qualify their opinions, but I've always admired Cameron's ability to throw in off the wall time signatures in the middle of a song. Chad Smith was also trained as a jazz drummer but applied his talents to a different genre.

GOAT, for me, goes to Peart. I agree with Copeland, Bonham, Moon being tough competitors in the percussion greats.

I can't find the guys name, but the drummer for "Caught a Ghost" seems great on the song "Cant Let Go".
Also, I know its not rock, but I loved the movie "Whiplash" and its drumming.

John C. Reilly's work in Por Ti Volare was spectacular.
Meg White (I'm totally kidding. Jack was quoted in saying that playing with her was like playing with someone who had never played before, every single time.)

One of my favorite drummers to watch play is Meytal Cohen. Below is an old video of her doing Danny Carey's job.

The drum line in Sultans is moderate and not real easy because of varying pressure strokes on the snare. This kid absolutely nails it. Her 1/16 paradiddle muscle memory is astounding. I'm sure her wrists made of rubber.

John Bonham was essentially Lead Zeppelins heart and soul. so much so that Robert Plant pretty much refused to tour after his death, no replacement was good enough, not even Bonham's Son. i had the privilege of seeing them in Austin in August of 1969, have never forgotten the Show, in those days it was all about the "Live" performance Zeppelin was the Best....

Buddy Rich was a "prodigy" one of a very few who could actually hold a concert simply playing a trap set. unbelievable speed and precision, lf you closed your eyes you would think it had to be two people creating the sounds that you were hearing. what this man could do with two feet and two hands was truly remarkable. Sad, most of the young music lovers of today have never heard him play. Nothing short of astounding what Buddy Rich could do.....

Living in Las Vegas, and having a wife who works at Mandalay Bay, we go there quite often to House of Blues for shows, or to one of their many restaurants to get something to eat.

Vinnie Paul is a regular there, and I can't tell you how many times I've run into him. He's usually plastered out of his brain, but about a week ago on a Sunday he sat down next to me and my wife stone cold sober as we were listening to a band. He was really kind and let me ask questions like the total fanboy I turned into.

I personally am a HUGE fan of Jeremy Spencer. I know he's more metal than rock, but I find him tremendously talented and rock solid as he drives FFDP.

If you get a chance look up Paul Campanella Jr. I think he still lives in Las Vegas. I did some live gigs with him and an album. Rock solid R&B no nonsense drummer.
