Mercedes getting a little over-hyped right now. I appreciate their out-of-box thinking but I'm not sold on it yet. Ferrari still looks the best to me as of now.

I didn't saw anything ...Yet , because I'm just back home from a work day at the company ...

Think that Merc was still sandbagging today and they ran with low power mappings in their test mule .

And I'm very curious to see what Merc's CCS can do over a whole race .

Sainz made a statement about this being typical Mercedes and how they see on the GPS how hard they're sandbagging. There is probably some truth to it but the Ferrari looks like an adult over the curbs and through the corners while the other cars are still getting there.

Idk on day 2 Merc were no longer sliding all over the place but porpoising was still an issue. So personally I think Merc are having issues with their floor. Alot of people are saying floor stiffness is the issue because when the floor flexes down it stalls the underbody aero and causes it to bounce up. Some teams have under floor designs not as susceptible to stalling so the floor flexing down actually benefits them because it acts like a skirt. Some teams like Merc tried to put skid blocks on the corner of the floor so it wouldn't get damaged upon the flexing down and touching the track, but porpoising happened hence the stiffening stays have returned. So idk I think merc have some floor issues.

I agree - I think they're too brilliant to not fix their issues but as of right now Merc doesn't look too great.

Binotto seems to be making the most stink about Merc. No one thinks the no side pods are illegal. In fact Binotto said during development they considered going that direction, but chose otherwise. Binotto doesn't agree with mirrors and the two wings they sit on.

The "wings" are side impact structures and they are totally legal. They are in the correct spots and legality boxes and thats the spot they would be if the side pods were covering them so under every f1 cars side pods you have side impact structutures right there. The only difference is those side impact structures on the merc are exposed and covered in an air foil, regardless the crash safety is still retained and will not cause anymore damage during an accident as they crumple in the exact same way just no side pods there, scarbs talked about this and kyle the ex f1 engineer talked about their legality.


What is controversial is the winglets on the impact structure, but other teams like alpha tauri have the same setup already going. The only reason teams are fussing about it, is because it is on a mercedes, a car that can actually pose a threat to the championship.
