Had a chat with a doctor this evening who just bought this 280z from another doc. I've always loved these cars. Classic design.

Nope. He didn't offer, so I didn't ask. He said he's known the original owner for years and has had a standing request to purchase the car for years as well. He finally got his chance. He's also a fan of E24s, so we had more than the one car to talk about. We got into how the E24s sold in the US had that same big front bumper as his 280z.
I think the E24 and the 280z are two of the coolest designs ever, bumpers notwithstanding.

When I was a kid growing up in Japan in the early '70's, one of my dad's fellow pilots (who was a bachelor) had a MT Fairlady 240Z in dark green. I remember it being an amazing car and getting to go for a ride in it was one hell of a treat for an eight year old. The cool thing was that my dad's buddy had managed to scrounge the control stick from an F-4 Phantom from somewhere (not all that hard in the post- Viet Nam years in that part of the world), and had talked the base machine shop into modifying the Fairlady's stick shift to accept it. It was the coolest thing I'd ever seen as a kid-- he'd come driving up with this almost new Fairlady with the F-4 shifter with whatever hot flavor of the week he was dating. He'd even had the main stick trigger wired so that when he toggled it, the main lights flashed. That's probably about when my love of cars and beautiful women kicked in..... R.

This "Other options" seems to be a regular feature of Ferrari stickers; it seems to me to defeat the whole purpose of the mandated pricing label; they should append another label with the other options on it.

Very cool story! Let me share mine. My dad flew both fixed wing and rotor in the military for 25 years. He then went on to a career in private aviation...but in any case when he retired, he was given the stick from one of the helicopters he flew. He gave it to me many years ago and I always thought I would replace the shifter of some car I owned with it. But I never did. I took these pictures of it just now to show you. |

God that is gorgeous, though I think I would change the wheels. I remember seeing the P1800s for the first time in 1962 and how blown away I was with the styling. The E Type Jag was introduced in the same year (1961) and they were both light years ahead of anything else. Their styling still holds up today, and always will.

On the road again. Fly fishing at the cabin for a few weeks.

A couple of years ago, Ferrari introduced their first V-6 model, the 296GTB, followed by the convertible 296GTS. These are hybrids with a combined 819 horsepower (830 PS). If you thought that the V-6 would be inexpensive, guess again: The GTB starts at over US$340,000 and the GTS about US$30,000 more.
