Agreed but that’s the way it always plays out before any new highly anticipated cars release. One thing that I did learn and was surprised to hear in that vid is that the engine sits so low in the chassis. Thats going to really reap benefits in the handling dept.

I honestly don’t think it sits any lower than the C7 engine does, just moved from front to back. My C7 engine is pretty far down into the car.

Didn't they move the dry sump from underneath to external? That alone would drop things a few inches.

Good point, but 2” is not a great deal...it will make some slight difference I’m sure though.

When you consider how much the engine, and transmission attached to it weigh, yes moving hundreds of pounds down a few inches does make a big difference.

Yep-- they made dry sump standard (previously Z51+, but not stock) specifically to enable the lower engine mounting position.

2" would be huge. That's like the difference in cG of a Boxster and a Camry.

But I do think the C8 adds back some of the gains since they weren't as concerned about a low hoodline anymore. The intake is taller and some other hardware is also mounted higher than it was on the C7. So I'm sure it won't be a 2" reduction, but it will likely be significant.

Hate to say it, but I agree. This thing looks absolutely terrible from some angles. It needs a drop and some spacers to get those wheels out a bit as well, the picture in that thumbnail looks dreadful.

Still can't overlook the value/performance ratio however, pretty amazing.

The LT1/LT4/LT5 all have external dry sump that's mounted to the passenger side of the engine. The ONLY C7 to not have a dry sump, the base Stingray, still sit in the same position (the sump just has a massive 7 liter pan that spans across).

If they claim the C8 LT2 sits 2 inches lower than the LT1 in the C7 with dry sump, I find that HARD to believe. IF they claim the LT2 has lower center of gravity compared to the LT1, I also find that hard to believe given the exhaust piping on the LT2 pipes UP vs down below the block on the LT1. In fact, the LT2 likely sits a few inches HIGHER than the LT1 due to the way the DCT transaxle is mounted (the LT1's driveshaft, torque tube, input and output shaft, and the diff's half shafts are all on the same plane. The LT2, due to the way the DCT transaxle is packaged, has the whole transmission/flywheel combo sit above the output half shafts of the diff).

Here's a good picture to demonstrate.



See the centerline of the transmission sits above the centerline of the half-shafts? That means, the center of the flywheel on the LT2 sits a few inches HIGHER than the center of the flywheel on the C7 LT1, because the transaxle on the C7 has the diff and it's output half shafts perfectly inline with the flywheel of the LT1.

I feel that way about most mid engine cars. Even the F8 gets called out for wearing a shawl around its shoulders.

The OG NSX looks like a Ford F-150 in side profile. The extremely cab forward position of most mid engines cars is just not attractive.

Perhaps this explains why I'd have an AM or a 550/575 over any mid engine car.

I should highlight that the cylinder heads, are set below the tops of the rear tires. Not the case with the C7. It has no need for the engine to be mounted higher to clear the exhaust which is the real reason for the upturned headers. Also, the LT2 has a shallower oil pan than the LT1/4/5 as the engine uses 3 scavenge pumps instead of one oil pump now.

I have no doubt that its mounted lower than the C7 setup.

I'm also in that boat. I've always preferred the proportions of front engine/rear drive cars to that of mid engine cars.

The rear pedestal wing is chintzy. Sure, it creates useful downforce, but it cheapens the look of the car. The lines are better without the wing. The body colored intake duct covers clean up the side profile. A set of properly offset wheels/tires will greatly enhance the overall look.
