It also takes a great deal of water to keep the trees going. Maybe nothing wrong with that, except the San Juaquin Valley aquifers are already over taxed.

Whole milk, fat-free, 1%, almond milk, oat milk, etc. Nice to have choices. We all get to drink what we want.

And today we live in a world devoid of class. I guess you know you’re old when you have a really pissy attitude about the state of the current world situation.

47 years ago today I raised my right hand and got sworn into the US Army. I know there are 'Nam vets here who pre-date that by a decade or more. I'm still a 'cruit on their lawns.

5/25/1966 US Navy. We refer to the new guys as Boots. But young or old, Navy /Army/Marines/AF/or CG, all my military brothers are welcome on my lawn at any time. Assistance within my capabilities will always be extended. Well, maybe with a few exceptions.

Salute!

Where did you do BCT? I reported for duty 8/1/67 and did basic at Ft. Bliss, TX. I've hated Texas ever since.
Did AIT at Ft. Sill.

Ft. Bliss in August? That must have been a shock to the system.

I did One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Ft. Knox, June-Sept, 1977. BCT and AIT in 13 weeks. Same drill sergeants the whole time. And that was hot enough. Not nearly as hot as Ft. Bliss, though.

How many stints at DLI? Did you attend the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey? I’ve never actually known what was taught there.

DLI as a Chinese-Mandarin student April 1970 - Feb 1971 (it was a 47-week course but I got set ahead six weeks due to my prior exposure to the language.)

Some folks went back to DLI and took intermediate and advanced courses; I never did.

DLI as a staffer (a "Technical Language Assistant") in the Chinese-Mandarin Department August 1977 to September 1980.

Our pay and personnel records were kept in the Naval Post Graduate School since it was larger and close by. I never attended any PG education in the Navy. The NPGS grants (to my knowledge) master's degrees in a wide variety of subjects like computer science, space operations, ocean sciences, operations research, etc.

Is it just me, or is glass cleaner becoming more wimpy these days? I was trying to clean the inside of my windshield yesterday, and might as well have sprayed the glass with WD-40 judging by how bad it smudged even after three rounds and half a roll of blue shop towels.....

I discovered SONAX glass cleaner a few years ago; seems to work better than the more widely available glass cleaners. I actually ended up ordering a monster 5-liter jug of the stuff and refill the spray bottle as needed.

I no longer use glass cleaner on the exterior of my vehicles as I've had all of them ceramic coated, including the glass.

Experienced the same frustration. Mr Clean Magic Eraser pads were the cure.

I switched to InvisiGlass a few years ago.

The other issue is that the inks they used to use on newspaper that made it such a great glass tool, have been replaced with something more eco-friendly : (

"Ammonia and phosphate free" on the label. Sounds like a shopping list for the missing items to brew my own glass cleaner that actually works.....

Ahh... the good old days. Cars did not come with defrosters. On a possibly rainy day you did not leave home without the newspaper. No, not to read you whippersnappers. You crunched a sheet up and defrosted your windows with it. It was magical. Dad and mom frantically wiped the windshield, tossed the used sheets into the back seat at the kids, and grabbed another one. Rinse and repeat. The kids were responsible for the rear window. Ahh... the bonding.
