I remember going to the ENT for some ear canal cleaning (with a rotary drill) He said he was going to put some drops in my ear and I might get dizzy.
"I don't have any problem with WHOOOAHH" Good thing I was already in a chair.

Having that sort of thing happen on the random would suck. Thanks, Mark, I'm sure my hypochondria will kick in any moment.

After the doctors chopped all of the electric signals out of my ticker and replaced them with an implanted electronic controller with an eBay tune on it a few years ago, my internal gyroscope and chronometer have been completely out of whack. I could be walking normally, and then out of the blue over-correct my gait and bump into a wall. One try to ride my bicycle was enough for me, and there's no way in Hades that I would ever get back into my race car even if the doctors cleared me to compete again. The best way that I can describe the feeling is like walking on ice at times.

As MKSixer said, it beats (pun intended) the alternative, and I'm mostly adjusted to the messed up gyro/clock feeling.....

I've never been, ahem...graceful. I wouldn't be able to pass a sobriety test where they make you walk a straight line because I simply can't. I was a goalie in HS hockey because I could do left turns fine, but couldn't skate a right turn to save my life.

But this is on a whole other level. The attack the other day was like someone flipped the house on end. And it affects your vision, so you "see" the room spinning. Instant nausea for me, and serious, drenching cold sweats. I kept thinking it might be a stroke. And my doc today said many people who get this go to the hospital thinking it's a stroke.

But tonight? Back to normal. Sitting here having a snort of Jameson and glad I can see straight again.

Can you setup to have cleaning done on a regular basis? I remember one time when young and stupid..I was using a Q-Tip to clean my ears and impacted the wax in both really bad. Walked around half the day like I was wearing ear muffs.

Went to my Dr.....and the nurse used this water jet with a vacuum wand and held a pan under my ear. I won't describe what came out..but it was the size of a big marble.

After that it was like I had super hearing. Dr. told me that I caused the problem, but he had people who came in with abnormal build-ups as there body produced more...and they would clean their ears about 1 every 3 months.

$25 copay, and maybe some assurance it doesn't happen again if it works?

Yeah, this isn't a wax thing. He checked my ears and said they were clean. It's crystals in the inner ear. No way to remove the crystals short of surgery. Just an Old Fart thing, I guess.

That sucks...sorry to hear. I just seen this.

Treatment for BPPV can be done in your doctor’s office, or with an audiologist or certain physical therapists. The treatment includes a series of body movements that reposition the crystals in your inner ear, where they no longer cause symptoms. Two procedures used are the canalith repositioning procedure and the Lempert roll. With canalith repositioning, just one time through the procedure is often enough to correct BPPV. However, it may be necessary to perform the procedure up to several times with brief breaks between before BPPV is eliminated. Your doctor will be able to detect treatment completion when there’s no sign of nystagmus in your eyes. After the treatment, you’ll likely be advised to keep your head upright for the rest of the day.

Although the canalith repositioning procedure is highly effective, BPPV can linger or return. This is more likely to happen in older adults. If this happens, you may be taught how to do the canalith repositioning procedure on your own at home.

Yep, was just reading the same basic thing. Some at home procedures to try. Dramamine helps a bit, too. Mine seems to be fading now. It's there in the morning, but gets better during the day. I just need to be careful about bending down quickly, which is easier said than done when you have cats.

I joined the club this year! The big five oh in Feb. I must be doing something right - although I can't imagine what that is. I am probably in the best shape I have been in for my age in my life - or close to it. I found controlling carbs late in life - but it was a game changer for me. I am 5' 10" and 165 pounds. My hearing (checked yearly for my job) is above average and I have yet to spend a single day in the hospital in my life or break a bone. Never smoked and don't drink to excess often.

My father was one of 9 and all his siblings had bypass surgery at least once and 3-4 of them (including him) had it multiple times. So far (knock wood) my sister and I have dodged that bullet, but get checked regularly.

I am not a health nut by any means. I work out a little, but not much and almost never in the summer - but I do have a few acres I live on and a 160 acre farm an hour from me that I do a lot of work on in the summer - so that is my work out usually.

The one exception? My EYES! I used to have great eyes and when I hit forty they said buh bye.....and gotten worse ever since. I was trying to read tags in my suits last night and even with cheaters I had to go get my prescription glasses to see them! Cursing the whole way of course......because, well I am old.

And late last year I got a small bump in my right palm that they believe is a Dupuytren's Contracture - so that is something I'll have to deal with later in life, but so far I don't even notice it till I am feeling sporty and dig the Z4 out and start racking through the gears - then I notice it a little.

So far - knock wood again - old age has been semi-kind to me.

Since the operation, I am absolutely certain that I could not pass most elements of a field sobriety test.

When I was in school, I always wound up being the goalie in gym class because of my quick reflexes and agility. My high school gym teacher went as far as accusing me of cheating on the agility part of the annual state-mandated PE class tests. He said that there is no way that someone of my mass could change direction so quickly sliding across the three parallel lines, and made me repeat it after class while he did the counting.
