The weather here has been absolutely awful for days, cold, wet and windy. As we approach the longest day I usually try to get a good sunset shot across The Moray Firth. Sunset time is around 22:18 just now and with the long twilight that we get, it never really gets dark.
I'm hoping the weather will improve ready for the summer solstice. Looking back through my sunset images, here's the last sunset of 2014, at Duffus Castle, taken at around 14:45. Last Sunset of 2014 by Alan Butterfield, on Flickr

Great shot, Alan. The UK is a landscape photographer's dream. Can't wait to get back there again.

2 fabulous mono shots here.
I love the conversion of your bird shot Ed, it really brings out the nature of the bird. Andy that landscape is just beautiful. Keep the black and whites coming, I find them inspirational.

I do the odd black and white, but maybe not as many as I should.

Thanks Alan. I usually find it works best with high contrast images. ive had plenty where the highlights were blown out or the shadows were pitch black and the photo was no good. B&W conversion has saved loads of them

The Austria shot is superb, Andy. Well done.
That lighthouse shot works surprisingly well in B&W, Alan.

This is to show the contrast between Ed's shot of the dry California grasses and Colorado's current (it won't last forever) abundance of moisture, keeping our prairie grass extra green and tall. (Snow pack is still over 200% of average):

A beautiful shot of a beautiful creature David.
It must be nice to be so confident that your 'abundance of moisture' won't last for ever. It feels like ours will A miserable spell of weather just now. C5, the colours in your shot from Seattle museum are so vibrant, I love it.

You've got two of the River Ranch, so I'll take one of those.

The azaleas in my garden are as good as I've ever seen them. Probably all the cold, wet weather we've been having.
Here's a triptych, taken this afternoon, as an attempt to show the flower from bud to full bloom. Azalea Triptych by Alan Butterfield, on Flickr

Interesting variety of Azaleas. They are clearly cousins to our American varieties, but different in several ways. Nice idea and great execution for the triptych.
