Generally I'm good with your logic but there is something here beyond common sense and logic. If I was a auto manufacturer and I was struggling for profit because of "carbon taxes" due to non-compliance with CAFE standards I would be interested in off loading some of my bigger CAFE drags off onto Hydrogen to lower the amount paid in non-compliance fee's (carbon tax by another name) Moving some commercial trucks to Hydrogen would help the bottom line.

I think I wrote in an earlier post that we vote in Representatives who create a fantasy land, which makes it impossible to make sound financial business decisions . Yours is of that, an example. Made up financial credits (i.e. penalties for those who do not comply) drive the decision making under an artifical reality.

The issue I have with hydrogen is storage. It eventually in the short term boils off at very low temperatures. If we just stay with gasoline and diesel and make series hybrids using ICE, everyone wins except those proliferating the Green narrative. An unafraid citizen is hard to control when he enters the voting booth. The sky MUST be falling. AT ALL TIMES!

Solid-state is supposed to be the answer, but that starts back at the top of a 15 year cost curve and where does that leave the in-progress charging network buildout? It will be a generation behind. The network already is a generation (or format at least) behind when Tesla opens up some of its network and manufacturers jump over to the NACS to take advantage of Teslas network. MORE tax dollars will be printed up.

While you say EV doesn't care where or how the electrons come from, true, but ICE all take the same pump nozzle and can burn the same fuel. ICE can burn lots of different source-derived fuels too, which can be distributed over the current refueling network. The Greens just don't like emissions and that's the main problem pushing ICE efficiency forward.
The long term goal is to make car ownership needlessly expensive and inconvenient. Look at all the delivery services now. Food, groceries, your own self, you can use an app to get it brought to you. When consumers no longer want to invest $60k into a vehicle, then you have an even greater level of control.

The end game is fleets of corporate owned EVs that are autonomous and charge at stations when needed. Those companies can then sell information about your purchases and trips, and offer preferred treatment based off sponsorship. So say you want to go to target to buy man pons, well, Walmart paid them a premium for preferred status, so you get promoted that they can take you to Walmart 15 minutes sooner. You're gonna go to Walmart then, and they're gonna hit you with targeted ads they're paid for on the way, and if you decide you don't want to leave your couch, they'll offer the option to have someone ride in the car and pick the stuff up for.you who is gonna get paid pennies on the dollar as "gig employees".

That's without even going really far down the conspiracy ideas of social credit scores and stuff like that. This is just purely getting people to rent their transportation needs vs owning or leasing.

The accounting here must be amazing. I think the last figures I saw were that Chevrolet is marking up their mid size cars around $2,500.00 to cover carbon/CAFE tax. If they can move even 20% of their heaver commercial fleet off diesel to Electric or Hydrogen that would make a substantial effect on profit. Since the commercial buyers also have incentives to go green they are open even if the vehicles don't work as well or as long as their diesel versions. Any thought that this is free market capitalism here is purely illusory.

Now that's some dystopian stuff you're laying down but sadly you are right.

Well with the Internet stating the Earth can tolerate no more than 8B people and the Earth's population reported by the Internet is already 8.118B, the starvation/shootings should start soon enough.

Another week another EV fire.
BELLEVUE, Wash. — An electric vehicle caught fire after a hit-and-run crash at the Interstate 405 and Interstate 90 interchange Thursday evening.
February 23, 2024
Firefighters were able to put the initial blaze out, but then the vehicle reignited two more times. That section of southbound I-405 was fully blocked for a period of time.
The fire started after a driver crashed into the EV Hummer, forcing it into a jersey barrier. That driver fled the scene.

Will the hit and run driver be charged with a crime against nature?

Apple can do a lot more damage to society with AI than a bunch of EV's.
After Apple and Google AI's gets done telling you how to think you will sell your cars and buy a bicycle.

I remember the time when Google's motto was "Don't be evil".

They still do that, just not as much in the US. That's life in most communist regimes. People who speak out against the ruling party disappear.

Toyota’s New Engine Can Suck Carbon Out Of The Air
Feb 27, 2024
At the Super Taikyu endurance racing series at the Fuji Speedway in Japan last year, Toyota demonstrated a carbon capture mechanism on a GR Corolla concept with a hydrogen-burning engine. The hunkered-down hatchback had a few secret items under the hood: two special filters and a recovery fluid.
These filters contain a ceramic catalyst—found in typical exhaust systems to filter hazardous pollutants from exiting the exhaust—coated with a CO2-absorbing material developed by Kawasaki. The filters capture CO2 from the outside air that gets pulled in every second. One of the two filters is positioned right at the front of the engine compartment, along the path the engine oil takes for lubrication. Kawasaki's absorbent material releases C02 when it's heated up, so Toyota took advantage of this by using the heat from the circulating engine oil to release the C02 into a recovery fluid. The C02 dissolves into the recovery fluid, allowing the absorber to capture more carbon from the air, which is again released into fluid via heat.

No one is suggesting all carbon dioxide be removed from the atmosphere. Showing ways to reduce co2 in the atmosphere is not revelatory.

And on August 30, 1967 when CARB was born, their statement was " Nah, we just want to reduce car emissions a little bit".

I will be happy to offload worry about a cabal of people scheming to remove all co2 from our atmosphere to any of you guys. I can remove that one from my list. Keeping the list short keeps me enjoying life.
