''Waiting 6 hours for a charger'' We shouldn't laugh as it's no joke, folks should think more before deciding in a New York minute that an EV is for them.
My Texaco fill up takes 5 minutes at the most (with an 80 litre tank) and that includes a quick look at the magazines and a friendly chat with the station attendant. Compare that with a snarling EV charge queuer who thinks you're pushing in for a charger...

I'm sure there will eventually be a tiered charger access priority system where HOV EV's get priority, or their own exclusive chargers, because you know, regulations are the best way to manage finite resources and government mandates. We might even get to see social credit scores applied in our lifetimes. Too many speeding tickets or low credit? back of the line.. LOL

Atleast now a line of 4 cars deep per stall is only a ~15 minute delay. Imagine it being a 6 hour delay.

I was talking about this very thing on this thread months ago. I won't line up to fill up with gas or diesel. If I pull in and the pumps are all tied up I just leave because I'm rarely below 1/2 a tank. I'd be taking hostages if I had to line up for hours.

Our current clod makes Carter look reasonably sane.

Seems shareholders threw penalty flags until woke boys got the hint:

"JPMorgan Chase and institutional investors BlackRock and State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) on Thursday announced that they are quitting or, in the case of BlackRock, substantially scaling back involvement in a massive United Nations climate alliance formed to combat global warming through corporate sustainability agreements"

My 530e is charged at home regularly and I average over 60MPG in the car. Even on long road trips I easily exceed 40MPG in the car.

Fantastic car. I put gas in the car for like $15 once a month.

Okay, not flaming, but it was 1973 and 1978 and that pic is from the 2000's based on the cars and plastic fuel tanks.

But we get the point.

Remind me again, what is the typical heat loss of transmission over the grid? 20- something %?

The picture size limits of Bimmerpost make the choices limited. But I should have the date right I was also thinking the 1979 oil crisis, thus the Jimmy Carter reference. Sorry for the inaccuracy.

Comical to post a picture from NJ under Republican Chris Christie in an anti-EV thread.

Also, people were lined up for gas because Super Storm Sandy knocked out the power in many parts of the NE and knocked out fuel lines preventing gas deliveries.

The EV owners who charged at home overnight as the storm rolled through could take their full EV and drive out while the ICE drivers were in ration lines as is typical after these major storms. And you think that’s makes the case against EVs.

Hurricane Sandy Power Outage Map: Millions Without Electricity On East Coast
Hurricane Sandy power outages have hit millions of people and businesses along the East Coast over the last day.
ConEd warned on Twitter that customers in Manhattan currently without power will have it restored in 4 days, and that all other areas served by overhead lines will take up to a week.
Power outages in New Jersey and Pennsylvania have "shattered records" with over 3 million without power according to Philly.com.
Three nuclear reactors were shut down and a fourth facility is on alert because of the storm.

I lived in Philly during Sandy. I remember it well. As I said earlier, EVs were a thing people wished they had while gas car drivers struggled.

Quote:

“I witnessed about 100 people running down the street with gas cans,” said Tom Moloughney, who owns Nauna’s Bella Casa, an Italian restaurant in Montclair, N.J. “They heard a gas station about a half-mile away was getting a delivery.”

Even though Mr. Moloughney commutes nearly 100 miles round trip to the restaurant from his home in Chester, N.J., he’s not affected by gasoline supply disruptions. That’s because he drives an all-electric BMW ActiveE.

“I can drive all I want without worry,” he said.

I was a kid in the early 70's and driving by 1978. The thing I remember about 1978/79 was the price of gas went over $1.00. The pumps were all the mechanical counter type that did not have 3-digit price gearing, meaning the highest price could only be $0.99. To compensate, gas stations sold gas by the half-gallon. Then Carter pushed changing to the metric system. So that made a mess of things because no one knew what a liter was let alone selling by 1/2 gallon prices. The mechanical pumps weren't set up for dispensing in metric units. The gas lines in the late 1970's weren't that bad, I don't member any. I do remember the early 1970's gas lines and the even/odd days (based on the last numerical digit on the car's license plate). If there were gas lines in the late 1970's they were short lived. It was more the drastic price hike as I remember it.

But no one sold plastic gas cans in the 1970's. That's what made me look closer at the pic. Lol.

Yes. But the 1973 gas lines were under Nixon, not Carter. Carter's term started Jan. 20th, 1977.

Okay, one guy part of BMW's Active E program in 2012 (one of 673 cars) who had access to 240v chargers at his restaurant (commercial power) and a 110V natural gas generator at home. BFD.

While I know that most of us will die from EVs by Nazi Zyklon B, spontaneous fires and being stabbed or shot while charging, and that they will destroy planet earth and will implode our economy and send us to a new dark age that is pre-industrial...I love the hell out of my Tesla S Plaid. So much fun to drive. Before the world ends and if you can I would try one of the more fun EVs out there.
